Im just curious if any of you in the US actually know how much a design patent or utility patent even costs...
The profit margin in the winch market is not exactly huge, so it seems kinda silly to waste the 40k on a patent you cant even afford to defend.
I highly doubt any of you have the kinda money it would cost to even defend your patent in a lawsuit. Considering that im somewhat familiar with patent lawsuits and what it would cost to actually pursue a patent lawsuit to the end... you would just end up putting yourself out of business in the mountain of lawyer and court costs if someone really wants to challenge you in court.
Unless you have a spare 500k + to waste just to keep some guy from marketing a similar towing device you patent is worth about as much as the paper its printed on.

SleuCrew, well said. I think that was thewinch's point originally.
You would be far better off investing the patent money into hard tooling so your price point would be so low you would own the market on price & quality, not by patent laws. It's far more effective and profitable. Of coarse you still need the excessive $k to do it.

well lol I dont handle news for Rewind, but the pirate winch now has the CDI unit on it, but we think, b/c the douchebag parts guy sent us the wrong parts, and wiring diagram it may have fried the pickup coil, so we gotta order a new one from the manufacturer split the case and install that, then it should be done,

ok at the request of senorbueno and a couple other people via PM here are the latest pics of the winch, I didnt really want to show anymore til it was done, but in light of the fact that this is dragging on so much longer than anyone really wants it to, I think its only fair I give you guys the visual update its essentially complete all the problems have been internal so once its fixed it will be painted and ready to roll, ironically it woul dhave been done by now, but the guy I originally wen through fo rmy stuff sold me a defective motor. . a returned ine essentially, but now we are going directly throughte mfg. of the motors so we shouldnt have any more problems after this motor is fixed the other ones will be brand new in the crate

one-eyed sailor551, I can tell you how I did it, but it will be more than buying it, thats like 2600 dollars worth of winch right there buying everything 1 piece at a time really jacks the price up, plus some of my sources are wholesale only

kento911, what's for sure is that thing will end up towing some tahitians from the back of a RAM
this winch is looking REALLY rad... I love the throttle/brake/clutch system, just like a bike!! but didn't you plan on having some sort of speedo on it at first?
When you plan on starting to test it gimme a shout, cause I will find a way to get to socal fast
