|
|
Need some stuff for spring. Questions:
1. Answer Poll and why. What do you use on your feet?
2. What are some good hoods and/or other options for head wear?
3. Also what are some good, cheap sites online to order from?
Thanks,
NEW QUESTION: Where can I pick up some Oneill heat socks and good gloves in the Orlando area?

I think my oneill booties are 2mm, and I wear shoes over them. I just picked up a pair of rip curl 1.5mm gloves for tomorrow. we'll see how they work out. I didn't want something to thick cause I didn't want to effect my grip to much. They feel like they will work good.
these are them but in 1.5 http://www.kiteworld.net/shop/index.php?shop=&cat=759&itemid=7706

RUSSIAN, I'm thinking maybe a little colder then that.
wakemitch, those socks look sick and I'm thinking about getting these:
Kelvar reinforced fabric on palm and fingers
New 3MM Gloves
Made from Kelvar and Neoprene
Color black and grey
Inch elastic band around wrist
Velour closure

Yes I rode two days ago without a suit. Yes When it is cold enough I wear a 3/2. So Yes, Move to Florida and you might have to wear a wetsuit..........a month out of the year. That is my cold water gear.

price.dan, Not now. Its too late for me this season.
I'm thinking as early in the spring as possible. I got out this year at the end of March.

I'm hoping to get out around then again next year but be a little warmer this time.

| JB_CANSKATE, the kevlar grip is going to be waaay too thick. you will hate it. dont go bigger then 1.5mm or else it is awkward to ride.

yeah, 3mm sounds so nice and warm, but it's pretty freakin tough to hold onto the handle for any length of time. Russian said his 1.5 neo gloves were awesome, though. Might have to try those next time.
Ozurk, with a good 4/3 full suit you'll be able to ride in some pretty damn frigid waters. If you're gonna be riding in water colder than 50 degrees, you're gonna want to get some nice neoprene gloves, a hoodie and some 3mm wetsuit socks, though. The coldest water I've personally ridden in was 42 degrees, and was fine wearing a drysuit. Today the water was 47 degrees and wakemitch, russian and myself were all more than stoked to be out on the water. We were all wearing booties, drysuits and testing out some new wetsuit gloves, though. Basically, if the water is in liquid form, it's ridable. You just have to be properly prepared for it.

Mine worked great. I have no idea about being durable. I would gladly spend $35 a year to keep my hands warm

i'm getting this wettie for christmas... i've used a 2mm shorty otherwise, which is pretty much useless now... i need to get some booties... good thread
here's what the manufactorer says:
The Quiksilver Cell CL:6 3/2 HFT Wetsuit is one teched-out wettie. Thanks to HFT (Hollow Fiber Technology), you'll stay toasty in water down to around 54F. HFT wicks water away from your skin and drains it out the bottom of the suit, so your body doesn't have to work as hard to retain warmth—and more warmth means more time on the water. But Quiksilver didn't sacrifice flexibility to keep you toasty. This Cell suit gives you tons of mobility and a great fit with its single panel of Hyperstretch neoprene. This four-way stretch material at the body and underarms locks in heat, blocks water, and keeps you incredibly comfortable. Quiksilver backed up the seams with LFS, which is a flexible liquid tape that gives you lots of flexibility and absolutely refuses to leak. All these technologies make the CL:6 ideal for surfers and wakeboarders who spend a lot of time on the water and want to maximize warmth and mobility.

I rode yesterday in Oregon with my drysuit (three upper layers, and two lower layers under the suit), with the 3mm oneill socks, 3mm hood, and the SLX 3mm gloves. The SLX work great for me, ive used them for two years now. the "3MM PSYCHO DL GLOVE" is way too thick for a boat sesh, I couldnt really hold onto the handle with them. They are warmer than the slx's though. I'd recommend them if you are winching, since you wont be riding for long periods of time like you would on a boat.
Ive tried the flx's they were too thin. they were so thin that after one winch sesh they wore out.. lots of holes in the fingers = frozen hands.
these are the 3mm slx's
Ive tried almost every glove oneill has, those are the best. they dont really feel that thick to me. They wear out faster than they should, but i'm pretty sure these were only thought to be used by surfers. when small wear out holes appear I just put some oneill neoprene repair glue on them, and they are good as new.
As for suits, I have the 07/08 oneill psycho II 4/3 w/zen and also the oneill boost drysuit. The drysuit beats the in warmth, easily.. and on those super cold days the drysuit is the only way to go. but the psycho wins in the looks department.
