At 33, it's a bit hard for me to explain how fired up I am about trying YA'LL'S sport. I call it ya'll's for good reason, most all of you have been doing it, or following it for who knows how long. I've been on a lake since i was 4, skiing since i was 5. i'm mentioned before, i've grown up w/ some really good skiers, some of which won national championships, so went on to get their tour card.. most all slalom.. but i guess we did everything growing up. slalom, jump, trick, then kneeboard (some)... barefootin.. but all in all, i've grown up adicted to speed, boat at 36 and your pull accelerating you upwards of 65-70 mph was all me... and an older buddy, who's shop sponsered to some degree a wakeboard team, and some involvement w/ wakeskating gave me some videos.. asterisk being the one that really made me go buy a wakeskate, a new rope & handle... then i bought a few balance boards and have been doing a bit of i guess you guys call it floor boarding, but practicing shovs w/ my handle tied to a stair rail... i'm going to take my board to my 5 year old neice's and use her trampoline :lol
i've been like a kid waiting on christmas.. every half way warm day, i'm just antzy to go get my boat.. (damn work gettin in the way again)
any insight, or practice tips, any anything i'll greatly appreciate... so i guess my first question is i bought the cassette 4-trak

it came with 2 sets of fins, one set is long, one is more short. what is going to be the difference, which should i try first? thanks in advance. oh tips besides the fact i should have bought an integrity instead of a cassette Smile

Any fin arrangement will work, play around with them until you find what you like. I don't know about the short/long thing though. A little tip, you're facination will speed should not overlap into wakeskating, 65 is a little too fast.

Bring all of your fins with you and change them out between sets. See what you feel the most comfortable with.

I'm not positive about this, but i think the shorter ones are the ones you want to use. They go in the fin holes in the middle on each end. The other set goes in the other holes more towards the middle and is used for nose/tail slides.

i pulled a few wakeskaters one of the last days we were on the water... i'd honestly never even seen one before that... it was just a flat board, can't remember what brand, seems like it was a liquid force or maybe HL, but they really didn't do any tricks, mostly just busted their azz.

edit.. ok.. the extra holes are for that.. gotcha.. thanks... this is a lot easier than using a dial caliper and degree tools for a freakin wing fin... that $hit is like rocket science to me... i screwed it up everytime Laughing

dave, gotta get me one of those reef rashguard shirts.. they gonna be back instock soon? that and a new vest, .. and prolly some new shorts too... my wife wants some girlz gear too...

question #2 - rope length... 75' ??? if so, damn that seems a bit long for the peak of the biggest part of my wake at 18ish mph

rope length kinda depends on your wake. set the rope where the cleanest part of your wake is and/or where ever you are comfortable clearing the wakes

dude, learn to use fins then try finless, its a nice change, i used fins the first few months i skated, and was like set on how good fins are, i learned liek shuv and 360 shuv with them, then one day my friend took his fins off and we skated that, it was FUN!, i think finless is more fun.... just giving some insite.. if ur gunna use some fins use the smallers ones. Also lemme know how u liek the 4 trac.. im trying to decide whether to invest in taht baby, or a the new integ...

Again, it is your preference. Try different lengths to see what works best for you that day. Rope lengths can vary depending on the boat, wake, weight in the boat, tricks you are working on, etc. There is not set rope length for all applications.

Experiment, explore and have some fun. The wakeskate police isn't going to get you if you try something different. Very Happy

warlock, and as far as the whole rope length thing goes heres my opinion on it. skating is so much better then wakeboarding cause it doesn't matter how long your rope is, ride it where you want it and have fun.

i have a pretty good friend who we wakeskate with i think he's in his 30's, i think that he might have landed a shuvit or 2 but , but whats so cool about him as that everytime he rides he has more fun then anyone in the boat i swear. him being so stoked on skating makes me and everyone else stoked also. i dont know where i was going with that sorry.

I didn't mean to give you the impression that it is not OK to ask questions. I just wanted to let you know that it is ok to try different things. I'm not sure if you took it that way or not, but I thought I should clarify.

Asking others for advice is always a great way to get started, but also, don't be afraid to do your own thing. Cool

dave, i didn't mean to come off that way.. i meant more along the lines of finding my own way w/ the rope length, the fins etc... i prolly should have re worded that...

i appreciate all of everyone's tips and comments... again... i'm really ready to get in the water and see what it's all about..

i've been on a wakeboard a handful of times... w2w was a piece of cake.. first pull... i just never got into it... i swear i never heard of a wakeskate until end of last summer when my buddy came in from CA that i grew up skiin w/ brought one.. i pulled them but all i did was ski (slalom).
