I was wondering if such a thing would be possible:

instead of moving on the water, have it move under you Razz

Take a pool and put a big ass ski engine or some sort of pool motor that creates a very strong current. You may need some kind of way to drain the water from the back of the pool and bring it back to the front.

I'm sure it could be done Very Happy

They have it for surfing, it's called a StillWave. They could do it a lot easier with flat water, but I'm sure the water stooting out would make it kinda choppy... if you ever have $1,000,000 to drop, this would probly be a fun way to spend it Smash

It definatly works. When I was young we used to always do this on the local river[cold mountain whitewater] with a piece of plywood tied to a bridge[river surfing].Tried it last spring with a wakeskate but since the handle was tied to a bridge[high] the pull was kind of ackward.Faster current you can let the line out more though=not so high of pull. The current would have to be close to 15mph I bet for it to work well.

isnt the water on those wave pools only like an inch or so deep? You wouldnt be able to do much on a wakeskate if that was the case. only surface tricks since you wouldnt be able to pop an ollie.

Below are photos from the Standing wave we used to hit up in Japan. Dudes would do lame tricks. We would try skateboard trick and eat it.

Also, our team set-up a waterski rope within a damn, and it works AWESOME!!! Water moves super fast underneath you. We have sick photos and are trying to get them published. If they don’t publish them, we’ll publish them here. Basically, if you can find fast enough moving water – it works!

I heard of those wave pools, but I was thinking more of something like the river surfing tribal talked about. But in a pool Very Happy

Having the first foot or so of water going at 15-18 mph in a pool wouldn't be that hard to achieve I think... Only issue would be managing the water that slams at the end of the pool ^^

Basically, this is NOT a crazy concept in the slightest.

As I said above, we’ve found a fantastic dam that has allowed us to learn new tricks quick/cheap and easy. Some days (after a big rain storm) there can be anywhere from 6 to 16 inches of water flowing under us. On those days, you can ollie, ollie 180, and – PERHAPS -- stomp a kickflip (no one has successfully landed one yet). Moreover, on those days, the dam actually simulates a wake. On most days, the water is mellow (about 3 to 4 inches) and you can land big spins easily.

Such places are fun, but they are, by no means, a substitute for the real thing. In fact, these places really aren’t the greatest place to train because they lack FORWARD MOMENTUM! It is easy to learn new tricks when you’re standing still (floorboarding); however, as soon as you start traveling, there are entirely new dynamics taking place and forces (mass X velocity) which have to be accounted for. Personally, I’ve struggled trying to come to grips with the fact that once you reach an idle speed behind a boat/sea doo, you and your board are in an inertial state of motion (the same as standing still) and the force of gravity is no longer pulling on you (as was the case while you were accelerating). That being the case, towing behind a boat at idle speed SHOULD be the same as “riding” in one spot; however, it’s not the case, and I cannot explain why??

I recommend finding a fast flowing river or dam to practice on, but don’t expect it to drastically improve your game. If you are in Ontario during the spring/fall, give me a shout, and I’ll show you our spot. Either that, or send letters to SBC WakeBoard Magazine “attn: editor” telling him to Publish our photos/article for dam skating. The article has precise directions on how to find the dam.

The only photo that we've pushed of the dam is a close up of a guys feet riding an older deck in the Flash animation on our homepage. That was a mellow day, and I think that it gives you a bit of an understanding of the type of pop you can expect. On a good day, you can get more than double that. I don't know if that's saying much! ha!

Peace Out!
