Esnow, you are right, and I agree. I guess my point is that at least there is somewhere else to go. They're no longer forced to go to those mags. Maybe there should be a mutiny...
I believe the WSM will gain momentum, advertisers, and clout with our support. The corporate scene is the corporate scene, and it might stay the way it is cuz dudes is paid, but I see the next wave of riders pushing hard in the opposite direction. Look at all that happened this past summer...
your last comment is very interesting to me. There are TONS of good riders and good images out there. Problem is, if they don't have sponsors who buy ads, the mag has no interest in running the photos. I'm not making this up, I'm speaking from experience. I just flipped through my copy of WSM, over 25 good images of wakeskating, not one pic of wakeboarding. |

I think my comment was misintetpreted. I meant that within those wake mags, you are lucky to find that number of wakeskating images. I'm sure there's a surplus of amazing images. I do expect to see the most progressive media in the wakeskate mag because they care. This all makes me think of that old sequence of gore kickflipping metrowest. I think it finally ended up in alliance, but it took forever. Someone at a different pub said they didn't run it because it was blurry. But seeing it, the sequence was good.
Anyway, the good thing is, as you said, there's something for us and we don't have to turn 20 pages of boat ads to get to our coverage. I probably felt like you when the butter book came out. But unfortunately, that didn't last. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

r.i.p. butter. Paco was way ahead of his time with that one...
I'm not sure I understand what you meant when you said you "can't give wake mags that much power over media and blackballing" |

Maybe my comment was a little naive. It was spawned from the context of this thread and your post, and immediately I think, they would never ban someone like nick. Plus, there's hardly any wakeskating in those magazines anyway. Anyhow, that's strictly in the context of riders. Are you thinking of any specific pro wakeskaters that have been "banned" from any publication? I think wakeboarders had a harder time with that, especially with wakeboarding mag in its early days (or so I've heard). or maybe like chase heavener and WBM. (haha)
The one specific ban I can think of is of course tad, but he's not a pro rider and I think that whole deal is way more political than anything. I'm not even speaking on it because it's not my deal and I don't want to repeat anything that should not otherwise be said. But I think it has more to do with personal conflicts and taking sides than anything.
Beyond that, you know, maybe there's still power, so to speak. because thinking about it, very few people (specifically "pro" riders) have said anything on this matter or have been super vocal, ever. So either nobody cares or there is something to lose and people still don't want to risk it and end up on someone's shizzle list. No matter what, this industry is very small.
And this whole thing about ads and not buying from certain companies makes me think about the advertisers that could be in the wsm but aren't. So who is really their target market? Why would you not want to be a part of one of the most exciting pieces of wakeskate media in years? So either there's disinterest, possibly a recognition of target markets (as in, maybe the core just isn't it), or maybe there's political pull there also. I can't really say that because I'm not even dealing with it but it still makes me wonder. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, Being that i was a skateboarder before i ever waterskiied, I can relate to your point about it needing its own image to inspire people, It would really bug me to see wakeskating portrayed as a 3 event sport. I have never 3-event skiied, nor would i ever want to, in that sport there is no identity, you are like a robot, its too organized. And your skill is measured in points, like getting a time when running a race, rather than off of style and creativity. I like that you always have Thomas Horrell knowledge on deck in these debates Wakeskating is its own thing and i have always known that, hence why i have been on this webiste virtually every day since i was shown it at 8 years old
poopiepantz, Don't you patronize me as a glove wearing slalom skiier here! Show skiing has simply been a part of my life since i was 6 years old. And if it werent for show skiing i never would have even have known what wakeskating was ! I think more so than anything, show skiing is my tool to help spread wakeskating. I realize that they are VERY VERYYYYYYY different worlds. Believe that.
I hate waterskiing magazines... Wakeskating will never become like that bulljive. _________________

without attaching it to wakeskating, there's some cool stuff in waterskiing's history. I think the parks documentary shows some of that. I really like how the ave guys handled that story and all of the bonifay's old black and white footage. And to see parks honor his mom on a wakeboarding hat...it's actually very cool. I want one of those hats just to have, and if it was a tee shirt, I'd own it. The betty b hat...and it's sort of a funny to bring waterskiing stuff into wakeboarding and apparel.
Plus, the minocqua bats are supposed to be one of the longest running show skiing teams in the US (or so they say). They get florida kids to ride in the great north every summer...maybe people who vacation here. I'm not really sure why they come here. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

loganhursh, ed carries a lot of ads over from wakeboarder.com on here. Malibu sponsors his other site, not this one. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Is it weird or coincidence that after this convo about Alliance (and others) started that 3 wakeskate vids in a row get thrown up in a row? |

I was thinking about that yesterday because I was watching those videos.
Both of those videos are amazing. They have a fun vibe that I havent seen with any other video. You can just tell that everyone was friends and had a great time making the videos.
Also, they gave some (at the time) unknown riders, their chance for a video part.
BTW Nick's section in Esoteric is sooo good! |

nick started this post and said right off the bat not to start attacking each other. 5 posts in, people are holding knives at each others throats. with that being said, everyones gay except for me.
jk, but everyone calm down
dont let the wakeskating community turn into what the snowboarding community is. go to yobeat.com and read comments. you'll know what i'm talking about. _________________ Skeight Junk |

shakwondozbell, Yobeat.com is one of the best sites in snowboarding and I believe it's because of their honesty. If everything was "Awesome bro!" we'd have some wack trends in the sport. |

That f'ing Mountain Dew add on the home page has to go, I mostly visit on my phone and it's impossible to close it. It's enough to consider not coming to this site at all anymore |

Jake S, Brooke's schtick never really worked with wakeskating. I'm sure it's much more appealing when it comes to snow stuff since there's already enough traditional media to go around. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground
