|
|
I decided to put together a rail that was:
1) Easy to build (took less than 3 hours)
2) Not expensive ($150)
3) Fast to setup (literally 5 mins)
4) Took only two people to setup
5) Transportable (12 ft incline and/or flat)
That's not to say it's the strongest rail or that tuning wasn't required. I had to redo some of the post adapters under the 10x2's. And you need to be careful when pounding in the rail initially to maintain the proper angles (less so if configured as a flat rail). The reason I'm posting is that I found stakes that can be attached to the bottom of the 4x4's, and they go into sand super easy. They are $18 a piece (for the 3 ft version) at HD somewhere hidden in the wood section. I had no idea they even existed. I could reinforce it with 2x4's across the 4x4 but for now I'm keeping it as is. I'll probably go and build another one that will be flat only. That way we'll have 24ft total to hit.
Here are the pics....

dscsk8er55, I used the longest lag screws I could to secure the 4x4 holders to the base of the rail (the 2x10). I'm not sure lag screws are the best approach though. If anyone has a better idea let me know.

the really cool thing is that depending on what 4x4 length you use you can have either an incline or a flat rail (or both if you build another one). I would still like to know if there is a better way to secure the 4x4 holders to the base.
