they have been doing this for years

they now have the wax printers pretty solid

the problem is surface quality (it looks like a tiny fuzzy blanked under the microscope)
vs a cad cam machine that can cut mirror perfect surfaces

but yeah its getting pretty crazy, they are really making moves with this stuff

they can create a ball within a ball

stuff like that

and really intricate designs
like this

i cant wait till they have them readily available and cost effective
so we can just download and print the new integs and take them for a set

We have a couple of these at work. We do small arms training, so we have to make simulated weapons from real ones. We use them to quickly print up different parts of our guns to make sure our design is going to work with all sensors and magnets we add into the weapon.

3D-printers are mainly used to fabricate prototypes during the (early) development stages of products where small numbers of a physical prototype are required and needn't withstand the strain of regular product use - hence usually package investigation or plainly just demonstrators. industries such as home electronics and automobile are useing this rapid prototyping technique. it is also being used to print cores for casting.

It is a ton cheaper then send out to a shop to build a prototype. Here we can build up parts for at least 1/5 of the price.

Also I did go to school for video games but ended up in Simulation doing 'Serious Games', I found a video that one of our customers did for a commercial for one of our products.
