Well it looks like any plan I had for these boats is out the window now. Too much family drama and it's not worth it.

New plans:
Buy a ski
Buy a Yr pass to wakenation
Cry

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how that bass boat will come up with a tin of cut & polish & a bit of elbow grease.

I think the evinrude will be too big for a jon boat. they usually are rated for 15hp motors max.

just try to fix the boat......getting a jet ski is a really bad idea. They just break all the time and are a pain to fix. that 35 hp motor is so easy to work on. if it doesnt start or run right pretty much all you have to do is take the carb off and clean it and make sure all of the valves and float is working right.

lemons craft boats are the most fun to ride behind

I don't know which types of flatboats you're looking at, but that's not true at all. You can't generalize with flatboats and say that a certain horsepower will work for every boat, because there are too many variables. The power/weight ratio has to be in somewhat of an equilibrium. I've seen 60hp tillers on 14 foot boats that'll only push about 30mph, because the boats are custom gator boats that are 900-1000lbs. It all depends on your boat. "Most" 14ft flatboats are rated by the coast guard for 25hp motors. In some locales, you'll get a serious ticket for pushing a motor that's too big for your boat.

It sounds really easy to say, "well my boat isn't going fast enough, so I'll just put a bigger motor on it," but it's not so simple. Like I said earlier, that 35 could be much too heavy for that boat (or it could work perfectly). If you have a smaller boat with a motor that's too heavy/powerful, you'll have to do some serious weight distribution in your boat to make it run well. Otherwise, you'll porpoise and your ass will hate you. That's another reason to shy away from 4-stroke motors. They're heavy as hell, and don't perform as well as 2-strokes for wakeskating. I'm not saying they won't work, because they will. A 2-stroke is just your better bet. All this being said, the only way to really find out is to try it and see how it goes.

Well there may be some life in this thread yet. Saturday I'm going to take both of the boats to a friend of a friends shop and see what he says.

It would be nice to have SOMETHING to pull me...
