it just looks stupid when wakers try to hit winch spots they dont have any style on the wake so they look even more stupid on the winch. it looks like they just try so hard to be legit. but look guys your not snowboarding.

one might also say to wakeskaters "look guys, you're not wakeskating."

Wakeboard winching doesn't make me like wakeboarding any more than I do (which isn't that much anyway), and I agree that some of the shred town winch stuff (an easy example) is retarded (like hitting a little kicker behind a winch). But it is a similar concept to urban snowboarding, and it's similar to the goals of wakeskating and winching, which is hitting otherwise unhittable spots, getting new back drops, riding more affordably, etc etc. I agree that it's boring to see a wakeboarder hit a spot that's already been dominated by a wakeskate...or not even boring, but just a total waste. but I don't feel as quick to cut it short. It's all about the rider and how they're going to use it. Hopefully more people with a vision will get on it and not hit kickers and passe shizzle behind a winch.

I feel like that was a massive mixed message.

i do give credit to well some of the wakeboarder that truly love winching. well like only 5 dif wakeboarders that is. but not the guys that are just trying to do it bc wakeskaters are getting shots all over the mags. its like they are just conforming to something they shouldnt be conforming to. just to stay in the mags!

Alot! i think wakeboard winching is kinda pointless for the most part too. they do some insane stuff but wakeskating is jjust way more options. but shredtown is sick. they have some crazy stuff

if you have seen the new alliance. you will know what i am talking about. its like they see us winching and being creative and they are like damn we better step it up. so they dont take over!
go back to the lake!

Well they started behind the boats. And then we started riding behind them. Its not as if we cant share the different tow methods. We have taken many ideas from them. Such as they used the seadoo first when pulling rails.

also shredtown crew rips

I enjoyed this video http://www.vimeo.com/10165651

I have hit this gap and the concrete ledge they are hitting is pretty high and the landing is very sketchy.

I would rather watch wakeskating all day long but I still think it was cool

anyone shredding on a board should get props and alot of those wakeboard winchers have some serious steez(shredtown mainly) maybe because i snowboard and can appreciate that all because your strapped in doesnt mean its easy. i think the reason you keep seeing the same tricks is because most winch spots are just gaps. this is exactely like snowboarders hating on wakesports because you have a handle that leads you, its stupid to hate on other boardsports.

ZackFL(BRE), I got the same hint from your post......but anywho, wakeboarding is not pushing the limits , and its definitely not the shredtown guys who are the best out there just the most published... ( I dont know how, when I know millions of other people who have done 10x gnarly shizzle on a wakeboard and mags dont want to run it ) .....they try doing a fire cracker on a wakeboard lmfao get the eff out of here.

and most of the big gaps they hit they go straight to their back or hand drag...

I mean who cares if skiiers and tubers and kneeboarders start hitting gaps right??? As long as they are having fun too?

Someone look up NICK V's double gap jump that's pushing the limits with wakeboarding....(edit) http://www.vimeo.com/6760064

Exactly, lose the training wheels, you can still do 360's on a wakeskate.

I've never hit a gap so I'd be interested to hear what some gapxperts have to say on the issue... maybe benwecametowakeskate? Laughing

labellethrasher, just watch aquafrolics or fun boots!, plenty of winching shenanigans to go around.

Everyone is entitled their own opinion, I'm not going to be a little fake-stoker and act like I support every board sport just because I want people to like me. I've never fallen into the whole "as long as you are having fun" cop-out, because a majority of people just drop that line to get out of a solid debate.

It's like comparing boxing to UFC. Nobody watches boxing anymore, because UFC is way more progressive and entertaining. It's not just punching, there's so many different options.. Why watch people hit each other with huge gloves and slow dance in the ring when you can watch dudes annihilate each other with elbows and flying knees to the face? Or a classy rear naked choke hold? Ok now put two boxers in the octagon with those goofy shorts and pillows on their fists and see how retarded it looks. You've got Shrimp Town.

Wakeboarding behind a winch makes no sense and looks retarded when compared to wakeskating. It's the total opposite of progression. At least Vinny Knapp steps his game up and hops on the skate when he knows the spot is too weak for a wakeboard.

To me a lot of it is all about style. Yeah, so you can do a tweaked grab behind a boat on a wakeboard about as easily as down a medium-sized gap, but imagine the photo you'd get jumping off of a waterfall or between a narrow gap in a few trees.

It just opens up creative options for both of the sports, it all depends how you use it.
