Just wondering if anyone ever tried it...most of the wooden wakeskates I know are glued...why glue it if you can carve? _________________ www.wandrco.com

Im pretty sure pressed boards offer more pop than one thats just carved out of a solid block... and with pressed you can use different types of wood with different thicknesses and different flex ratings that would make the board ride differnet i guess... Just what im thinking... i have no clue. |

carve? like with a knife?
plywood offers the benefit of not having a preferential grain direction. With solid wood there is going to be a direction where the material is substantially weaker. I don't believe it would be much of a factor on wakeskates because the majority of the stresses are applied in one direction.
Are you thinking about "carving" out the rocker or just the concave? Because the deck would be too thick to bend the rocker into it, and carving the rocker in would result in a lot of wasted wood. |

i dont know how much material is wasted making a wakeskate, but i imagine carving it would make more waste and take a very long time unless you have access to some expensive equiptment _________________ if theres no future in it, at least theres a present worth remembering.

Kay-Kay, I'm thinking of carving the whole wakeskate, from its rocker to its concave. I don't really care much about how much wood will be put to waste coz we'll prolly find a solution for that. By now I'm more concerned about it's possibility to work like the pressed one. Tho I heard from others that it may break easily, like what you've said which makes sense. But those are just hypothetical (maybe..idk). Unless someone has tried it already. So, it's prolly worth a try.
jcoffey, idk but from the place I live in, pressing would take so much time than carving it.
Thanks a lot guys for the inputs! If it works I'll let you know but if you don't hear from me again, it prolly sucks! Hahaha! _________________ www.wandrco.com

tyn, seems to me that a wakeskate with woodgrain only going in one direction would warp like crazy. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com |

DRAGON88, uhm so that's why all wooden wakeskates are all pressed? Not just to get the desired rocker or concave?
I'm sorry I don't really know much coz if I do this thread won't be made. _________________ www.wandrco.com

if the grain splits from the water... which it will do... the skate will split apart the whole way thru and break... unless you use wood with a super tight grain like teak... but then you will still get warping... regardless of what you use. |

well considering some of the first surf boards were carved, and a lot of the first canoes, id say yes , it will work
will you like it? prob not
will it ride good? prob not
could you stand on it on the water? yes
but why _________________ https://vimeo.com/moontowerco |

A guy I know glued some 2x4s together then "carved" the edges for a woodshop project. No griptape, kickflip first try. I've always been a believer that wakeskating is 10% board and 90% rider. Now I don't even think I would give the board that much. So to answer your question, hell yes it will work. Ride it till it dies. _________________ www.kcwatersports.com |

So apparently after hearing lotsa different voices, I am now convinced that carving the whole wakesk8 will only result to a big failure. Luckily our wood maker been studying about this lately and came up with a better plan. So, hopefully things will all work and if it does I'll come back to share photos. Thanks everyone! _________________ www.wandrco.com

Too lazy, didn't read the whole thread so this may have been covered but I'm pretty sure boards are layered for a reason aren't they ? _________________ Go Balls Deep Or Go Home |
