The IPad is pathetic. Its just a IPod Touch on steroids. the MS tablet looks amazing.

Given the amount of build up I would call definitely it underwhelming, but not pathetic. If/when this thing drops to $200, I'll consider getting one. I'm sure there will be some pretty cool apps for this once developers have some time with it.

Another tablet that looks interesting is the Lenovo U1. It's essentially a laptop whose screen can be removed...and then it becomes a multitouch tablet. http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/lenovo-ideapad-u1-hybrid-hands-on-and-impressions/

daniel, its like 30 bux a month, just like the Iphone. Thats an extra $360 a year, plus if you have an Iphone too which most Ipad purchasers will, you are already paying for that 30 a month for your Iphone and its essentially the same thing but larger. so your going to be paying $720 a year for the combo of a Iphone and Ipad when really they are the same thing, but the Ipad just cant call...lol. I think thats a bit crazy...Oh and it all depends on how much memory you want or if u want 3G + WiFi capabilities or just WiFi, im pretty sure the top model is nearly a grand it self.

if you get the 3g one then you will have to pay 30 bucks a month, but if you get just the wi-fi i dont think you have to pay per month.

-=AlexXx=-, that is if you want 3G...and atleast you don't have to sign a contract. and to get 3G on a netbook it would be $60 a month.

the top model is $829 with WiFi and 3G, or $699 for just WiFi.

I have always been a hater on apple, but I think the iPad is pretty damn cool. just might be my first apple product.

Two solutions:

1) Don't get an iPad with 3G. This saves you $130 on the unit itself, and there wont be any monthly charges.

2) Instead of getting the unlimited data plan, get the 250mb data plan. It's $15 a month.

-=AlexXx=-, I don't have either of those. all I have is a desktop computer, I just want some thing I can sit on the couch and browse the net with, maybe play a game.

I can do this with the iPad and it's 10 hours of battery life as well as use it as my ereader.

daniel, when mac says 10 hrs they mean maybe 6.

Im not telling you not to get it, im just saying there are other alternatives that would probably make you happier, research till your brain hurts. And maybe wait it out because mac always comes out with something better in maybe a year or less. I remember when the first Ipod color came out, u could put pictures on it, i thought i twas the coolest thing. I got it. Months later the Ipod video came out and it was MUCH skinnier. Months later the Ipod touch came out. then one with a speaker.... and so on and so forth. I would just never get a first generation mac product, there will be bugs.
