What does it mean to "own" your life?
I only watched a few seconds of it, but right off the bat it makes some assumptions that are not givens. If I "own" my life, shouldn't I be allowed to sell myself as a slave if I want? How is it that if I were the sole provider for my family, and I were say injured to the point where I was no longer mentally cognizant my wife for example could sue the persons responsible for my injury and receive monetary compensation for my lost production.
Firstly it seems odd to talk about a life as being owned period, secondly it seems to me that others DO have some sort of claim on my life.
I guess I should watch it, but I'm assuming it continues on building on the initial ground work. It also talks about liberty being inexplicably tied to property, I'm not sold on that claim either. There have been many different conceptions of what constitutes liberty by many hundreds of political philosophers going back nearly half a millennium... There are different notions of what constitutes property or ownership even with the US legal tradition. _________________ The aforementioned postings and musings are the opinions of myself in their entirety and are not the opinions of wakeskating.com
