our engine won't start

for what its worth i just got a used new winch with that same engine and i have to choke it every time i start it. my dad,who is a mechanic ,says the carb needs adjusting (air fuel mix srew) only problem is it cant really be adjusted. if you look at the screw it is square and locks into place so you can't turn it. kinda weird.... anyway just throwing my little problem in there. mine starts but only when i choke it. is yours running yet?

Ya any word on this? These engines are very cheap but if they arent worth the hassle then I'll get somethin else. Also were you running it with a TAV? how was the pull?

the engine worked good for a while but now when we start it up it seems like someone is flooring it. I checked to make sure the throttle wasn't stuck or messed up but i don't see anything wrong. we have a clutch on it but i want to get a tav.
it can deep water start us but not very good.

sometimes the throttle linkages on the cheaper engines are a bit flimsy. I had to run a spring to counteract the original spring to get it to idle properly on a friends winch. fiddle around with the linkage until it idles properly and then figure out where you need to hook the spring to.

ok so my friends and i were putting on a new carburetor and we found out that a piece from the old carburetor fell off and got stuck in the engine. so we got some pliers and pulled it out. but we couldnt get the screw out of the engine.

we put everything back together and it still didn't start.

could that missing screw have something to do with it?

I just bought one of these and got a warranty because I knew there is no way it will last more than a year and a half. I plan on getting new engines with the warranty for life.
