Hey guys, im thinking about building a winch b/c i dont have anywhere near the money to buy one. i already have a brigs and straton motor and its 5 hp. do yall think that would be enough to pull me up, im about 5'8" and 125lbs. and where would be the best place to get parts for the winch, like the spool and just the basic things that would be alittle harder to build.
thanks alot!

yea the engine would work, but anybody else it that is heavier would need more horsepower. there r some threads that have some spool ideas, check them out.

How do you run a winch without hooking it up to a truck with a reciever hitch? b/c alot of the spots i want to go i cant get my truck to. do you have to put steel tent spikes through holes in the frame or something?

wakeskatingrulezd00d, You can tie it to trees or fences with straps and ropes but metal poles and stakes work well.
