I dont get how it was inspired by a wakeskate. I see the manta ray just not a skate. |

I think it is just straight flat on top with no curvature to go up into the arch of your foot. If that's true, how old of a video did he watch?! |

Maybe he put in a 3-stage rocker, or some nice edges that will be better for carving.

yeah, I'm curious as well... mostly about which video he was watching!
was surfing the twitter link in the article & came across pictures of some crazy boards with no back fins, just 4 little built in fins (like a liquid force wakeboard). _________________ good people drink good beer ~ Hunter S. Thompson |

here's a pic of one of his last creations (I think it was his). Maybe the bottom doesn't have traditional fins?

I would not be the least bit surprised if Kelly Slater started doing kickflips off the lip. He would do something like that, just because he probably can. _________________ Only the evil live to see their own likeness in stone. |

How about a surfboard with concave in the deck like a wakeskate, as well as concave on the bottom like a traditional surfboard? The tails on those first boards are insane, really interested to see how they surf, sure he will kill it since he can surf a door.... and upside down coffee table, etc.... |

burn0n3@420, I didn't say that was the manta ray board. He's been making non traditional boards lately and causing controversy. I think that might have been the board he recently surfed a comp with, & won. Any person with eyes can clearly see that is not the manta board _________________ good people drink good beer ~ Hunter S. Thompson |

FYI the manta ray is the nose. seems stupid. The nubs would snap off really easy and it seems like the cut out would dig into the water. It would be better to just square off the nose.
I think the wakeskate resemblance is that it is more symmetrical rather than having a clearly defined nose. and with the round tail it looks like it would shuv around super easy.
the dual stringer looks cool too.
There is definitely a lot of room for development on surfboard shapes. |

yeah, I just saw that on their recent twitter post. craaazy, i totally thought that was the back. Like you said, I can see that catching & breaking in theory. I hope he actually rides it & wins again though.

Seems to have some pretty squared rails, & some interesting channels as well... _________________ good people drink good beer ~ Hunter S. Thompson |
