Yesterday, in Victoria, Australia, it reached more than 48C or 120F degrees.
several towns have been completely destroyed and more than 12 bushfires are still considered out of control.
there are reports of the fire moving more than 110kmh or 70mph and taking only minutes to destroy these communties.

Quote:
The death toll from horrific bushfires across Victoria this weekend has reached 84, surpassing the number of people who perished in the 1983 Ash Wednesday blazes.

More than 700 homes have been lost in what is being described as 'Hell on Earth', and it is feared the death toll will pass 100.

i was fighting the flames at my best mates house yesterday, it came within 50m of us but luckily the wind forced the fire straight past us. big thanks to the CFA who saved the house. across the road was not so fortunate and 6 houses went up.

my grandparents live in eildon, where a 'complex wildfire' is heading. the front on that fire is over 100km wide and it has already burned more than 93000 hectares. my uncle lives in kinglake where 550 homes were lost and the whole town is gone apart from the pub. 22 people died in that town.. i know several of the people who have died.

the damage done is incomprehensible unless you have been there and seen it. i have seen bushfires before but this is unbelieveable.. it is hitting outer suburbs, its nothing like i have ever seen before.

North Queensland is currently experiencing monsoonal rains and flooding. Mother Nature at its best. Victoria's high country is the most vulnerable piece of land to bushfires in the world. These bushfires are Australia's worst natural disaster ever.

You really hate to see this kind of stuff happen, I hope that things get better down there in Oz. It hits home when you see that this kind of stuff can happen in a country as well developed as this.

dylo, I'm sorry for your losses and I hope things get better. All I can offer right now is a pull if your even in FLA, wish I could do more.

Was this intentionally set or was it natural?

I was in australia last year, and it seemed like if a fire sparked up there was so much dry brush that it would burn and jus keep burning.

empire88, at one stage there was well over 400 burning. the one i was fighting was deliberately lit and the kinglake complex fire was also deliberate, that is now over 300,000 hectares (or 1200 sq miles), over 140 now confirmed dead and 10 on life support in victorias biggest hospital.

fires are now being treated as crime scenes and arsonists will be charged with murder

praying for you man.......

I'm in fire academy right now, remember one thing, Buildings can be replaced....... but no one can replace you. WHen your talking about arsonist and s#it like that, you need to be really carefull, they use excelerents that can get out of controll real quick, and alot of them actually set traps.

again my prayers go out to everyone who's life's have been changed by this.

thanks for the support guys, the worst is over now and there is no more direct threat to communities. however the weather is sposed to get hot and windy next week so heres for hoping that all the fires are well and truly extinguished by then.

police fear there is more than 400 dead.

Quote:
"I think it's just the tip of the iceberg. We've got hundreds dead and who knows where the ultimate toll will take us."

"They're finding families huddled in corners, there are deceased people who haven't been found or accounted for," he said.
