As far as I can tell, my professor for my intro to international political economy course, is from Michigan, or Wisconsin. Because of this early on in the term, I noticed that she had an interesting propensity to use the word "yah" as a quotative. As such I felt it necessary to gather data throughout the term, so that it might be presented to her in a scientific manner once the term is over.

Today was my final in that course and I just got around to entering in all my data into Excel so that I might make visual sense of all the numbers.

Let us start with some basic statistics:

Average recorded "yah" per day: 40.25
Total recorded "Yah": 644
Average Yah/minute: 0.503

Now down to the beautiful charts.

Firstly a simple histogram to show yah's per day:

Next we have a line graph which will show the Yah's per minute breakdown per day:

Next lets look at the breakdown of individual days as a breakdown of total:

Next up is a simple line graph to illustrate trends in frequency. As you can see during the middle of the term she really spiked with extraordinary numbers.

And finally the masterpiece of that is known as the bubble graph:

This final graph is the most complex. The bubbles are spaced on the X-axis by the date, then the center of the bubble represents the total numbers of "yah" recorded for that day, the size of the bubble represents the density of "yah" per minute.

Conclusion: while my data accuracy could be better, one can still conclude that my professor said the word "yah" more frequently than previous research suggests. Fin.

LOL

We did this (though not to this extent) for an English teacher in highschool had a bad habit of overusing "shhhhh" to quiet down the class. We began keeping tallies of how often she used the expression (?) "shhhhh" in one class...I think the record was 121 times in one class.
