Its a damn shame they didn't run the full article. Why wouldn't they run a proper pic with it if they had them? WTF rolling stone?

honestly I'd prefer if winching stayed low key like it is. I don't want cops to know what we're doing out there and I surely don't want the towns to start making bylaws against winching.

Why does everybody want wakeskating to go mainstream? We've already got all the boards and equipment we need. Isn't it nice to know we've got something this amazing all to ourselves? The less kooks the better IMO.

"They ride on bindingless boards, pulled by a diesel winch constructed from an industrial snowblower motor, chain-saw parts and parachute cord."

soy escuala, yeah bro, emphasis on the binding-less wakeboards, the DIESEL engine from a snowblower, and parachute cord.

Read as a devils advocate...

The more mainstream a sport gets then more money and opportunity would exist in a market dominated by a handful who are really really good. Try to look back in the old days of skating..and Im only drawing this comparison for monetary purposes...the grand prize for 1st place in an event was a small tasteful trophy. Grand prize today for the Tampa pro was 100,000$. Now...if the pool of Pro riders in our sport were as large as that of other sports in thier short 28 year history..mind you its been around for 7 or so years now...then alot more of us would likely be sponsered, make more money and not only that...think about those of us who are not that good but love the sport. If it were more mainstream then the chance to hold an event or own a shop dedicated to our sport, or be the announcer or photographer for a certain magazines or website would be a little more attainable. I for one have no chance of turning pro. Im too old, too fat and too lazy. That is the simple truth...BUT! I can help run a magazine that helps us progress and push each other in directions we never thought possible.

I leave you with this final thought....the desire to be different is what makes us the same.

Please dont get me wrong...I love the fact that its underground. Thats the allure, however once its out then that is going to be allure for every 12 Y.O. on the planet.

There was once a really good coffee shop that no one really knew about to get great hot Lattes and chill with a select few peeps....Now you cant drive 3 blocks in any direction with out it being in your face.

I guess what I'm trying to say is its a natural thing....wakeskating and even winching becoming a little more mainstream...and we shouldn't be afraid of it, we should embrace it...as it comes...and try to make that much better for your little brother or cousin who is just getting into the scene. As long as we dont forget the roots and the core of the sport it will live on in all of our hearts...even if they start to sell flat decks at WalMart!

the way i look at it is at least it was mentioned. the only time wakeboarding has ever been mentioned was most likely in the same article and called pansy. plus from what I hear everyone on that trip had an amazing time, i just hope we still get to see all the good stuff from it.
