oh good lord no!!!!
Well actually the first time i did it, I got like $60 and that was awesome. But after that I got like $15 and just wasn't worth it. You get sooooo drained, like you are sick with the flu or something. It kicked my ass but sometimes when you need money, you need money _________________ http://trihawk.fotki.com

when i was at UF and strapped for cash I almost donated plasma once. But I got to the place and talked to the nurse and found out I had to be in a chair for like1-2 hours with a giant needle in my arm, they would be taking my blood out, spinning the plasma out and returning it to my arm a little bit colder than 98.6F. I left. Didn't need the $40 THAT bad _________________ chance favors the prepared mind |

blood is red blood cells and plasma... when you donate plasma, they draw blood and spin it in a machine to separate the plasma (like the yellow liquid of your blood) and they return the leftover red blood cells to your body. I think they have to take a bunch of blood and spin it like 2-4 times to get enough plasma in one session, so they have to give that leftover blood back to you or you couldn't donate very much plasma in one sitting. You could be there with a fat needle in your arm for up to 2 hours *shiver*
what do you have? I could look it up, but I'm lazy. How did you find out you have it? _________________ chance favors the prepared mind |

Le Jalapeno, when you donate plasma they take far more plasma than they could take if they kept your blood...
you know how lot's of people feel faint after giving blood, they only give a pint, and it takes 7 minutes....
they filter your blood for 2 hours when they take plasma.... you'd be empty if they kept it all.
for a reference, the male body has about 12 pints of blood, and the female body has about 10 pints. _________________

JeffKnox, Well you don't really understand how serious it is..... It'd be one thing if I was afraid to hit a rail on the wakeskate, or afraid to do certain things. But I'm a thrill junky, i love bridge jumping, I love being scared (for the most part), and I love bombing hills on my longboard.
But needles and spiders put the fear of God into me, I don't even know how to fully explain how it feels.
Its not like these fears got slowly out of hand, I've always been extremely afraid of them. |

JeffKnox, Yeah, I'm not going to deny that in the slightest.... I'm sure that through intensive therapy I could overcome them, but thats not really something I'm willing to put myself through.
Of course it would be a different story if I was agoraphobic, or claustrophobic and it was affecting my life. |
