I was on my way back from another healthy McDs lunch when I suddenly thought electric jetski.

They make electric cars so surely they could make a ski that would be powerful enough.

I spend about $20NZ ($10US) on gas each time I ride. So how cool would it be to drag the ski to work plug it in then ride after work each day with out it costing a cent.

^ seriously. i think when they come up with a 100% leak free enclosure to house the electric engine then we'll start seeing prototype electirc boats and the such.
there might already be some out there. im about to make google my beach to find out haha

ya but would they still need to pump water through the engine like they do now to keep it cool?? cause if thats the case i think it will be nearly impossible to make one of those

if you leave things plugged in when they are already fully charged it kills the battery. youd have to watch that, and its a beach to worry about it with your phone and ipod, let alone a machine

idk, i dont think an electric engine would really stir up enough heat to have a need for something like water to cool it down. maybe they could rig up fans inside the engine to kind of push the heat out of the engine its self.
someone out there is bound to be smart enough to rig something up

inside out radiator.... instead of using air to cool water... use water to cool air... seal the system, and have "ram inlets" that let cool water flow over the cooling fins of the radiator (that has hot air in it).... 2 stage, should work...

R/C boats... run batteries.. it's a realistic idea

it's absolutely possible.... but why not try solar? you usually only ride on nice days anyway.... just may need to have larger panels than can fit on a ski....

may need to be a large ski

There are many manufacturers who already have working electric mules. (prototypes.)

Honestly I'm a bit surprised we didn't see one unveiled at surf expo this year...

I think the difficulty with a jetski would be the size, the batteries are quite large and heavy, and if you wanted any kind of decent life out of it, I'm not sure that practicality wise it can be done yet with the batteries that are around right now. (There's just not a ton of room for batteries on a ski.)

I think the real future is in fuel cells that use the lake water to create hydrogen to burn to create electricity. Again, technology that is being researched by a few manufacturers right now...

The cons to both of these movements is that because they're so infant, they are still fairly expensive, to the point where it makes it hard to justify the extra$ over a normal gas operated boat. $10,000 or $20,000 buys a lot of gasoline. Even at $4.00/gallon.
