it really would be a neat thing to have on a winch.. but it may not be worth the cost of the R&D to design it. Bang Head

unless of course Jeffknox can talk his professors into having this as a group project in his UF engineering classes Cool

if money and portability is no problem use this:

Honda iGX440

http://www.honda-engines.com/engines/igxfea.htm

the rpm can be set and the thottle is electronically regulated to keep the same rpm

use a big spool, so the speed will increase just a bit when it winds up

i have been thinking about makeing a winch with this engine, and perhaps some day i will. it is a 15hp and do not know how much it costs, will be a lot....

Honda sent us a sample of this motor about a year ago. It does look to be an option, but it is expensive and heavy.

Thanks,

Ken

Or you could just use one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Bushnell-Speedster-II-Handheld-Radar-Speed-Gun-SALE_W0QQitemZ260304112492QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260304112492&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1419|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1309 Laughing

i rigged a moto throttle cable system, used the screw idea

but has anyone thought of making one handle (simmilar to an ATV handle)
with a Thumb lever ( for throttle) that was limited speed ( like the set screw idea) and the break on the same handle ....

You can drive with one hand ......every bit of it

PS my winch is electric start and im rigging a start button on the same handle with throttle and break

pics after its mastered

( did that make any sense???)

The first winch i ever saw or rode behind was Zak stones hive
its orgasmic
