definitely flats. if you're just attempting your first shuv trying one inside out is harder. number one you're popping higher and number two you're landing moving outward.
start in the flats, focus on spinning it around and not so much on the pop at first. good luck! |

my first shuv variation was flats. but before that I learned a body varial. The point of that was it was basically a mental thing, because the last thing I wanted to do was do the splits. I felt like cutting out and trying it in the flats gave me more control over what was going on (like speed and such). now I actually use that as a rhythm type thing, as well as a way to build speed.
NOW, my point. I only learned inside out shuvs last year because I don't ride behind a PWC all that often. My experience is that they release a lot faster (and easier) when you do them inside out. If you have a crappy ollie, it might be an option. But I also think what everyone else is saying makes sense. I wouldn't have wanted to learn it inside out first.
but if you are riding with fins, you are going to need to focus on some pop, or that fin is going to catch and eff you up. If you ride a skateboard well (and do a shuv while rolling at a decent speed), doing shuvs on that will help a ton because it will help you see the trick. That's seriously the key to any trick--seeing the trick in your mind and looking in the right spot when you're trying to perform your desired maneuver. hahaha...but seriously, where you look is important. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

yeah listen to everything esnow said.
but yeah if you have fins, you definitely have to pop it. if not the only thing you'll be landing on is your face |

listen to LiquidForce71, ts w2w shuv indy is the easiest shuv trick out there. if you're a beginner try that before flats...

Throwing it Rhett Williams style (xboard32x)
Timing isn't as crucial in the flats, so I would say it's the easier of the two to learn... _________________ √ |

Exactly. But why learn kickflips I/O first? |

gporter, that's how i've started learning them and i finally landed one today.
you can pop higher inside out for a kickflip, i just find it alot easier than flat kickflips. |

985wakeskater985, haha dude you're the reason i landed a kickflip. i saw your video of you doing them inside with that wide stance and i tried it that way and i land on the board everytime.
now make a video of you doing them in the flats so i can learn it there. |

by the time you're learning kickflips, you're presumably going to be more advanced than you were when you were learning shuvs. You'll have the timing down for that little kicker, and you'll be used to trying stuff inside out.
As for the pivot point thing, the way I can explain it was when I was trying to show off for the boat with a shuv front lip variation. Labellethrasher had mentioned to me that he used the skinny end as a pivot point, meaning he'd approach the lip with the board backwards (what was the nose was now the tail), he'd shuv to front lip, and the skinny end of the board was what was underneath his back foot (but in the front lip position). After that, you chuck that beach around 270, or maybe just do a little front shuv out. but that's what he's talking about. I try not to let those things get to me psychologically, but it actually works. I don't know if it's because there's less board you have to push through the wake to do a 270 shuv out or what. but it feels right, too.
Hopefully that made sense. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
