amosb72, That vid was a weak picture of what winch and wakeboard can or should do!

Here's some of our pictures

it might be a "weak" picture of sorts, but it comes down to a dude having fun his way. (Perhaps he aspires to achieve your brand of winching?) You don't have to have a certain ability to film yourself and post it. And I'd be willing to bet that some dude SOMEWHERE would be stoked on it, and there are dudes that ride plenty worse. Similarly, i know I got stoked on ollieshuvitz's (sp) old, old winching films he has on his site. Some of those dudes were only doing small shuvs (which is not representative of high level winching in wakeskating), but at the time, it was relatable and I thought it was awesome.

Tangent over: OTT, I'm sure his ability isn't anywhere near where your friends are at. Especially if they're jibbing with an original HO from like 1992. Laughing

it's totally cool that that dude can have fun winching in his ditch, who hasnt done it and had a blast?!?! by the way, did you see that winch, it was full on Fun Boots! themed! hahaha pretty sick.

What i found watching that though, was just further proof of wakeskating's potential. Where a small rail in a ditch like that is just simple goofy fun for wakeboarders, a wakeskater could actually treat that as a legit obstacle to learn tricks on. kinda cool the accessibility of it.

electricsnow, sorry if I said something that got under your skin. I was just simply answering the title of this thread.

"Anyone else think wakeboarding is stupid without a boat?" No, wakeboarders do not need a boat to have fun. Nor be stupid.

I liked what you wrote on page one about JF, you should watch that vid with KM doing the Season Ender and the rest of Homeless is great fun too!

no no, absolutely nothing got under my skin, and I apologize if I came off that way (I'm not normally opinionated Rolling Eyes Laughing ). I just felt like replying because I feel like ability is a serious factor, in terms of how sick something will look, how something is going to be accepted, etc...it seems like ability and involvement seen to affect perception in a huge way (like, what's "legit" and fun to you may not match up to what a less experienced, and perhaps less involved rider is going to be pumped on, and tell their friends about--that little ditch rail being a prime example). And It seems like that is forgotten.

amosb72, why kill someones joy and excitement of riding? Just because you dont find it cool doesnt mean that the person in the video didnt just have one of the best times of their life. I wentwakeskating in the middle of January in a ditch made by melted snow. You know what i threw? An ollie and a surface 360.....However that in itself made my month because its what i found joyful in my day and life. Sorry but i just dont see why you need to kill someone's excitement because you dont find it "cool" Smash

electricsnow, i think i'm the only one that got your allusion in your second post, hah.

amosb72, who cares? it's all about having fun. if i recall right, it really bothers you whenever people give you shizzle for "urban skimboarding," but you do it because you think it's fun. it's the same situation.

that's what i was thinking when i posted this i guess it came out wrong
i actually don't even really remember what i said however i do remember saying something like excluding the red bull winchmasters and stuff like that

ok just went and read what i said

amosb72 wrote:
I just watched a vid of this guy winching in a ditch with a little rail
which is fine
but as i watched it i realized how stupid it was and how much better wakeskating it would be

i wasn't gonna say winching with a wakeboard is stupid just b/c of stuff like the red bull winchmasters
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejsSIxQqKo0
and there is that vid

and i did exclude the winchmasters and stuff like that

but i think what i was thinking more so when i made this thread was how much better that setup would hav been on a wakeskate. and i wasn't saying u couldn't hav fun like that or without doing tricks, i was just saying that it seemed kinda dumb to me b/c of the limited amount of tricks that could be done there and a wakeskate has many more possibilities

and Sam you are right and had a very good point, thank you for bringing a comparison from something I do, it made it a lot more understandable to y he might be doing it
thanks again

and please stop bashing i do get the point
i shouldn't hate on something that someone enjoys just b/c i don't particulary like it

yeah wakeboarding definately isnt pointless without a boat. i have a roam and i love it, its just a different kind of freedom, and is awesome for rails to go big on

without a boat? i disagree, unless you're talking about every watercraft in general.

i have an 08 wake with the ballast, i don't wakeboard, but my friend does. he can do alot of stuff behind my ski. rolls, 540's, he even landed a scarecrow(i think? frontroll 180?) the other day.

Long time ago the wakeboard pro tour had a jet ski sponsor and the pros had to ride behind a ski to qualify for finals and ride behind the boat. Darin Shaprio was the only guy who could really go big behind the jet ski and riders threw in a lot of air rolls and other air tricks. Thomas Horrell once staged a "protest" at a contest by riding straight the whole time and not throwing a single trick, "because its WAKE-boarding"
