|
|
| How much different do you think boards will be 5-10 years from now compared to what they are presently? In my own opinion, I don't really think that much dirrerent from what we see today. I know there will be refinements of shape and construction materials and processes but think the general shape and construction are what we will see forever. Why? Because while wakeskating may be the youngest of boardsports it also started the furthest along in the evolutionary curve. 20+ years of wakeboarding prior to wakeskating to show us the general outline, edge, and rockers(yes I know there have been ws specificish rockers, aka 5 stage, tried but they seem to have already gone to the wayside) to guide us to what works best when being pulled. We don't really have really self generated speed like surfing but if that were the case we would have 50+ years of surfing bottom contours(vee, reverse vee, single, double and triple concave, etc.) to help guide us in the right direction. The last 20 years of skateboarding has really shown us what a good deck concave should feel like so that has also really helped us along. 25+ years of snowboarding has even helped us with advanced construction tecniques that are already being used. Bi-levels may be unique to waleskating but even those take elements of already evolved boardsports. In the future those too will even have, hopefully, the same reliability as other boards.. Well this is where I am seeing thing from and why i see them that way. How do you see our great life going. |

| soflostile, agreed. One thing i do worry about is that if wakeskating gets as big as I think it can is that board quality could actually come down because of the quantity over quality thing. Presently, if a company provides something that isn't quality it will very much adversely effect itself. But if ws'ing were bigger, would that effect be felt as much? Just a worry of mine. |

| feelnjstfine, yeah that is definitely a possibility, it has happened to many sports including skateboarding (not all companies, but a few major ones certainly need to refine their construction process). Another worry could be that wakeskating could get completely exploited and kids could start doing it for the wrong reasons (again another thing thats happened with skateboarding) |

| feelnjstfine, i think as long as a company stands behind their work and isnt trying to mass produce crapy boards the sport could stay on the right track.. But wakeskates prices are getting a little crazy because it dosent cost that much to build a board when you buy products in bulk. |

Bingo! I agree 100%. Strapping is just unintentional comedy anymore. I will miss trick names like the Whirly Dick though. |

One thing that's been sitting in the back of my mind recently is the possibility of using materials in composite decks that aren't as dense as they are now. What if there were materials out there that were as stiff as today's materials, but with the same density as wood? That would give you a deck that might sit in the water like a wood deck, but with the durability of a composite. _________________ facebook.com/TheLiquidPlayground

I'm not one to usually speculate, I live in/for the now completely, but I say as far as design and construction is concerned the sky's the limit. Who knows, who cares, just roll with it bros. Its not about the ends, its about the means. _________________
