okay so im trying to convince my grandparents to help me buy me a winch.............. my argument is that it will save money in gas in the long run.........so how much does it cost to run a winch for a day?
basically i need someone to help do the math to figure out when we would be getting out moneys worth back in gas....
boat for a week=90$ "in gas"
winch for a week=? "in gas"
winch cost=1500
please help me out _________________

winch for a month = 1 gallon of gas = 4.00
boat for a month = 90 x 4 = $360
so youll save approx 344$ so 1500 divided by 344 = 4.36 so in approx 4 1/2 months of winching you will have covered the winch cost in savings of gas alone! wow math problems are so much fun when it involves winching _________________ www.jimizwakenskate.com

I think Logik is close enough, but based on his math it would be $354 savings/month, instead of $344. Maybe just a typo.
You could take it a step further, since on average, there are more than 4 weeks a month.
90/month x 52 weeks=4680/year divided by 12 months = $390 month boat gas.
$390-$4 = $386 savings per month. $1500/386 = 3.88 months to pay itself back.
So if my math is right, about 3 months and 27 days !!!!!! _________________ Sattelyte Wakeskates

| winching is good in certain places, but i wouldn't want to replace a boat or ski with a winch. |

A full day of riding with 4 people is about 110 bucks on my friends natty 211. It's probably more now, with gas at 4.50 cents a gallon _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

Also, if you build the winch and shop around you could do it for $600-$1000 instead. It's a fun project and once you get it running well its so sick to be able to ride behind something you built yourself.
Some other Pluses of winching:
-you don't need a big car to tow it
-you don't need a huge body of water to run it
-You'll only need one other guy (no spotter)
-you don't need a license to drive it
skimboarder is right winching will never replace boat or seadoo but thats whats good about friends with boats... |

| if you dont have a clue about what you're doing then do some research and get a clue. it is not hard to make a winch yourself, and it is very rewarding. if you build the winch yourself then you have a better understanding of how each part works and this allows you to care for your winch better. dont buy a winch, theres no point. |

Mr. Top Hat, your a genius at this kind of stuff though. you and anthony both are. i reseatched my ass off........ and i just figured out what was wrong. (a stupid spring was f'd up)
what top hat said was right, but make sure you have someone knowlegable about it helping. and really really research. the hardest part is probably the welding...
but if you have the money and dont feel like makin one... buying a professionally made winch WONT hurt _________________

| yea if you build read thru www.winchskating.com. I had really no technical knowledge and I think I read every post on that site when I was planning my build. You can buy the metal and find someone to weld it for you in your area I'm sure if you don't already know someone. |

| when making the frame i just bolted it together and took it to a welder already assembled. saved time and money and pretty much anyone can do this. |
