can i just use a bike helmet or do i need something specific for wakeskating or skating? im trying to be cheap here and by cheap i mean spending nothing

bike helmets won't be as secure on the head, but i'm sure you can use one

seven11dmd, Besides looking a like a "funny fella". A bike helmet would not be a smart idea, especially if you are going to start hitting rails. Bike helmets unlike skate helmets are designed for one bad crash then they loose all integrity, they're designed to give way an break, much like a crumple zone on a car. Skate helmets are designed for repeated abuse, they don't give like a bike helmet, but spread the impact zone so you feel less of the effect. Both work well for their intented perpose,(or so I was told by one of the designers at Gyro) but wakeskating is not the intended perpose for a bike helmet. (I'm talking standard bike helmets, not these full face stuff) A skate helmet would work much better and last longer.
