|
|
Chris emailed me this a few minutes ago and i thought i'd share w/ you guys... as i think it definately trickles over into wakeskating very well.
a few years ago, I used to
make custom longboards.
They were simply called "Chris Rempel Longboards", or CR Longboards.
Anyway, long story short, it got too busy too quickly, and the
business folded (because I didn't know what I was doing then...)
But I kept the site up, because of ONE thing.
This one "thing" had actually turned out to be the BACKBONE of my
business, and it generated a ton of "silent buzz" in the
longboarding community as a whole.
Without me really doing anything, people were talking about it on
their blogs, on forums and just in general.
It was the very first article I'd ever added to the site, and it's
called...
*The Philosophy of Longboarding*
Check it out and tell me what you think:
--------------------------------------------
THE PHILOSOPHY OF LONGBOARDING
By Chris Rempel
Longboarding is not about ollies and kickflips; the only real trick
involved in longboarding is being able to enjoy riding no matter
what your ability is or what the conditions are like.
Longboarding is not about trying to be something you're not - it's
about being who you are.
Longboarding is not about sponsorships, contracts or stopwatches;
your sponsor is the road, and the only contract you sign is with
yourself. It's about simplicity. Longboarding transforms a trip to
the grocery store from a monotonous annoyance into an adventure.
It's about remembering that there's more to life than money and
schedules as you feel gravity locking your feet into the board on a
tight carve.
It's about having more fun walking up the hill with friends than
carving down by yourself.
Longboarding is more than a fancy piece of wood with wheels on it;
it's an attitude. It's about enjoying a ride on broken pavement 400
miles from the nearest ocean just as much as a perfect barrel ride
in ten foot surf. Don't just ride; enjoy the ride.
(As seen at http://www.crlongboards.com/phil.htm)
--------------------------------------------
I really don't know how else to describe "longboarding" - I think
that article sums it up.
And believe it or not - that's why I'm doing this as well.
Don't get me wrong - this IS a profitable situation for you, me and
the board manufacturers that participate - but really it's just an
EXCUSE for me to do whatever I can to stay involved with
longboarding somehow.
My "day job" is running some other online projects in other markets.
This pays the bills and then some, but it's not really a passion.
I'm very much an entrepreneur - but that "philosophy" has never
changed.
I will ALWAYS be that longboarder at heart.
Just wanted to give you a bit of background on why I'm doing this...
Take care, sawyer
Chris
