hmm...
1st gen ipod: class action suit relating to the battery sucking bigtime
1st gen mini: screens were cracking too easily
1st gen macbook: battery issues (they sucked, were bloating, catching fire, etc)
1st gen macbook: fan was loud (spinning at wrong speed? firmware fix)
1st gen macbook: randomly turned off ("it just works" Laughing)
1st gen macbook: plastic case discolored

That's just off the top of my head. Let's just agree to steer clear of Apple's first attempt at new gadgets, because they have a bad habit of using the general public (read: apple fanboys) to test their new products out. Then they release firmware updates and hardware recalls and call it a day.

The MBA isn't really all that. No dvd reader/writer, no removable battery, glossy screen only, just one USB and no firewire port. It's cool if you need something ultra portable to check email and type up some papers and present the occasional power point presentation at some meeting, but it isn't going to replace a "real" computer.

It looks rediculously thin.... but like scott a said.... its a mac.... which leads me to beleive its going to be patheticly unusable after a short time of owning it....lol. Also it really is dumb how it doenst have a CD drive... that would piss me right off to have to carry around an extra device just to run a CD. Neutral

Well I used to agree about staying away from first gen apple stuff. But, I have a first gen iPhone, iPod nano, had the first iPod and mac mini, and have zero complaints with any of them. their first gen stuff is sometimes bad i'll admit... you should just wait a month or two so that you can hear more reviews of the device. but seriously, 1700 for a machine that has no dvd drive built in is a big risk? if anyone can pull that off, it would be apple though.

I am a MAC person all the way, but the air to me is too thin. I travel a lot and my macbook, pro etc takes a beating and I would be worried about this one.

Knowing how mac works, a month later they will sell a cover for this that will make it 1 inch thick and protect your bla bla bla bla.

i don't really enjoy apples, they seem like far superior computers compared to the average PC, but they just aren't for me.

but since this is just a slimmer macbook, would that still constitute as 1st gen? i'm sure they are going to have most the kinks worked out (like ipod to ipod video, or mini to nano)

I'm a mac fan. But even I don't see the point of this. Why not just get a ipod touch or some kind of palm pilot? Haha. Who is this marketed for? Laptop users? What kind of laptop user doesn't need a disc drive? Oh well. My pro is better than your life. Mac pwnz j00.

TAD, Apple will create a market for this thing just like they did with the ipod and iphone. They have a ridiculously good marketing department and there's a whole lot of people out there who swing from Jobs' nuts.
