My wife and I have had fun on our Hyperlight scape 107. We purchased it at a local competition for $80 (20% off) march of 2004. I think the board has performed just fine for getting us into wakeskating. At the time we didn't even know if we would like wakeskating or even if we could get up on one so we couldn't see spending a ton of money on a more expensive wakeskate to find out we couldn't do it or just didnt like it. Before that we had only wakeboarded 6 or 7 times. If I would have known I was going to like wakeskating so much though I would have purchased a better model that would hopefully last longer. I have already seen some small 1/8 inch nicks/splintering in a few spots around the edges on the scape but nothing real bad. I assume this wear and tear is normal for all wood decks and nothing to worry about. It is holding up just fine without any problems though and still looks like new, but I do wonder what it will look like in a year as I start progressing. We are mainly doing surface tricks(ollies, ssruface 360's, etc) at the moment so the board is not getting any heavy usage yet except for me *trying* to ollie crab trap bouys every once in awhile and getting a scratch in the paint . Before winning the wakeskate game tournament I was looking into buying the Integrity, Butter, or Kampus K41 board.
I doubt this info will help you much since everyone has their own opinions about boards. Knowing that I like wakeskating so much now, I personally would get a better board if I were in your situation as far as purchasing a first wakeskate if I could afford it. |
