so, i was at school about 2 days ago. i was walking out and i ran in to my headmaster (who is also a good friend of mine). so we were talking and he brought up wakeboarding. so that conversation contiuned onward and then i brought the conversation further by talking about winching. now my school has about a 600 foot pond in the middle of the school A.K.A. the best place in the world for a winch contest. and i was telling him that the lake at our school is the perfect place to have a contest. And he loved the idea!!!!!! he was sooo into it. so he was like yeah, i want you to get to work on making a contest at the school. so long story short. i have the apporval to have a winch contest at my school.... and i am wondering, what dimensions should the pool. i want to have an a frame a cool box, and another rail. i want your thoughts on what the length and width of the pool should be, and what the thrid rail should be. Whichever rail idea is best will get free admision into the contest.

keep the rails simple. The best thing you can go with is just a gradual decline rail thats atleast 20ft long. With wakeskating if you start making complicated pool gap rails with all kinds of kinks and humps its just gonna make the contest worse for the fans/riders. The riders wont be able to throw anything great off an aframe or anything else with too many ups and downs. Just keep the rails simple and you will have much happier riders because they wont have to worry about risking there lives hitting some gnarly rail. Now if theres gonna be wakeboarders also at this contest, build whatever you want. They might prefer something along the lines of a loop or a 10ft kicker to raley or flying squirrel off of and really get the spectators pumped on there crowd pleasing aerial maneuvers.

Andrew Masi, by the way man didnt mean to go on a rampant run on lecture about rails. Thats an awesome event to have. Id be very interested in coming. Get a general concensus of what everyone wants and build what you think would be best.

are you going to do the whole event in this pond? or are you talking about having a start up pool? if that is the case the closer you can get to a 60 foot start up the better. and of course the wider you make it the less water you will lose as each rider plows through it. which is a huge bonus, trust me. try not to make it to high of a drop off. high enough to make it cool but so that you will still get some good stuff thrown down it. 6 feet? another thing is liner for your pool. check home depot in the paint dept. the have plastic liners that are long but not really wide, and tarps which are a little more expensive but durable. the tarps come in 59 foot lengths and are really wide.
also check the depth of your landing area. and how far you want everyone to ollie before hitting water.
let me know if you need anything for this event.

like kyle41 said, keep the rails/boxes simple so that people dare to try good stuff.

I was at a rail comp in japan the other weekend. All the stuff was fairly simple and that made the trick level rise.
here is some pics.

this contest isn't only going to be wakeskate. it has to be wakeboard to. the box is going to be either declined slightly, or it is going to be something dope. the a frame is mainly going to be for wakeboarders, unless someone wants to go for it. and then the third rail i want to do something that no one has seen before in a winch jam. go outside of the box.
jalvemo, that looked like it was a sick jam. thanks for some help. how long was your start up pool into the pond ???

sick man. and ask your school how you can and who can sponsor the event. it might be that you can get some club at your school to help raise money for the event.

On the japan one, We had plastic sheets all over the lawn, about 15m. That was ok since it was a transition rail.
I was at nokia fise last summer, and then there was a start up pool of 20m. I wouldn't wanna have anything less if there is a ollie on rail, just so you get the speed going. 20m feels really short when your in there. If you cant get that much, you can put a plasitc start box thing before the pool that you start sliding on. (havent tryed that, just a thought).
