Thinking about building a winch, picked up a 6.5hp briggs motor and built a frame but i havent got a Torque Converter yet and my buddy gave me a clutch...if i gear this properly will it do deep water starts as well give me good enough top end speed? I weigh 150lbs...so let me know what ya think, thanks. |

if you weigh 150 you should have no problem doing deep water starts. There is a ton of information on here as well as winchskating.com and wakeboarding-winch.com. Your half way there, hook it up and do it!!! _________________

Yeah thanks, ive been looking around, but most of the winches around are using torque converters. If i just stick to my clutch system, what size of sprocket do i need to achieve my deep water as well as good top end speed? |

Bigger the better, like 72 tooth. But 64 should still work for your weight. Once your up and riding you should have plenty of top end speed either way. _________________

I have a 6.5 Champion with TAV and 60 tooth clutch and it can deepwater start me at like 500ft so easily. I way about 180lb and its no problem. Also tops out I'm guessing around 25 mph. |

Yeah the point of my post was to find out if the engine will pull me properly without a torque converter, just a normal clutch. And if so, what size sprocket i should use to do so. |

DVSSKATE is right, it can be the biggest most powerful motor, but none of these motors can pull submariners all day long. its all technique. _________________

so a lot of guys are able to deepwater with the CC still? even with 60 tooth sprockets? what spool diameter are ya'll running? i have yet to be able to get a deepwater start with my 6.5 jiang dong, 12 tooth CC and 72 tooth sprocket with an 8" spool. just yanked the governor though and am thinking of adding a stage 1 engine kit so maybe that will help? otherwise ill just go CVT so its solid for everyone that rides with us. |
