-Thomas Horrell sent me this forward it reads as follows:

>IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
>PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL
>COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
>
>AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER
>4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
>
>THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind "
>DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE
>THAT DAY.
>
>THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
>PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
>
>WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
>GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT
>THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
>
>REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE
>SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE
>FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS
>SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES
>ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
>
>WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE
>WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
>
>SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU
>KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE

The problem isn't not buying gas one day we need to not buy gas for a week but people can't get out of there cars for long enough to really hurt the oil companies. I know I won't buy gas that day and hopefully I can avoid buying gas all week to help the cause.

it sounds like a good idea i guess, but if everyone tries to hurt the oil companies and stops them from getting 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS from not buying gas one day wont they just up the gas prices even more for the loss??
i dont kno if thats what would happen but whatever...

That's funny, I've always wondered what would happen if that scenario came true. It would really suck on one hand, but people have been able to get by without such conveniences in the past. I'd move down to the river and live off fish and fruit the rest of my life. Glasses

I think Travis is right, if they don't make any money, they will want to compinsate for there loss. Wouldn't there insurance company give them some money has compinsation?

if they would loose 4.6 billion dollars in one day, which means they make 4.6 billion dollars in one day.. which means all the days before may 19th they made 4.6 billion dollars... so to them it might not be that much of a loss? maybe im wrong. but i told my dad not to buy gas but he works for refinerys all over.. when they build one there is a really long start up process and then they call my dad and the drag my whole family to a place for two years then we do it all over again. but i think my point was that he needs refinerys. but o well. ill slash the tires Twisted Evil

Frye, has got a good point, and also If everyone goes along with this plan and doesn't buy gas on May 19th, then they are probably gana fill up before of after may 19th, so everybodys gana be gettin there gas on the days before of after may 19th. So the gas companies are gana bb gettin more money on thoes day that might just make up for the loss on may 19th.

I'm not a finacial evaluator and don't know what gas companies accounts look like, but thats just my thought. We would have to strike for a few days to make a dent in the oil companies, and I personaly can't afford that because I need my vehicle to get to work and make a living.

Yeah, as cool of an idea as that sounds like, I am willing to bet that it wouldn't work. Not only are people not organized enough to do it, it wouldn't prevent anything by not purchasing gas for one day. The demand for gas is an inelastic demand, meaning as prices go up, there is little change in the demand for the gas, basically this means that people need gas and that is that, it doesn't matter how much prices go up, in a short term period of time people are going to have to pay for it. Any revenue not made in that one day of boycott will either be made up for ahead of time or after the boycott date, because people have to buy gas. The only way to really prevent these high prices is to adapt to them in the longrun. If people buy more gas efficient vehicles, shorten commuting distances, start using public transportation, and start walking and riding bikes more, the demand for gas in the long run will be decreased. This will force the gas prices to come down eventually. That is why gas prices always fluctuate, there are forces driving them up, but we will just adapt and they will come back down. If you look at the price of gas throughout the past 30 years, it goes up and down frequently but it usually falls to a pretty average level.

The way i see, it, one day won't make a difference. A boycott means to completely refuse to use something. That means no gas you already have, no use of other fuel consumption like city busses and what not. The oil companies have way more than 4.6 billion, i'm sure one day won't make a dent. A week maybe, but that would require (as i said before) not even using any gas consuming vehicle or whatever. There really isn't much we can do but wait it out.
