I dont think so but dont quote me....
I live in a mainly brackish water area (river mouths to a sound) and the only real warning we have had since this happened was at a local competition ski lake (not really small or too shallow but none the less)...
Im thinking that this is concentrated in Freshwater....
That being said... Sux my first post is about a water death monkey organism that has no face or consciense (sp?) and kills little kids... Makes me worry for mine =(
You guys in the freshwaters, stay safe...

| this is why i ride on the delta in northern cali.. All i have to worry about is dead bodies, random stray alligators, whales that are lost, drunk people, hazardous waste, small farm towns that have been flooded but some roofs are only a couple feet under, indian burial grounds, but besides that its not too bad. Plus i get all the vitamens and nutrients i need everytime i eat shizzle bad and swallow some nutritous delta water. |

All week, the Amite river in Louisiana has been like 80 F. Not gonna stop us from riding.
But just to keep this thread from becoming an urban myth I've pasted information concerning these killer amoebas from a website:
http://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/guide/swimming.html
Amoebas
In late summer, there is an unlikely chance of coming in contact with the amoeba Naegleria fowleri. In rare instances exposure to this amoeba can cause Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM), a dangerous disease. Because the amoeba enters the body through the sinus cavity, nose clips and dive masks greatly reduce chances of exposure. The amoeba lives in bottom sediments and therefore refraining from swimming the sediments is a good precautionary measure. In the rare event of contracting PAM, early intervention is important. Symptoms begin with severe frontal headaches or a stiff neck within days of swimming. Treatment requires antibiotics. _________________ Your mom is my favorite knee boarder. |

A kid here in austin just died yesterday from one he got swimming in lake lbj... The lakes around here are super hot. Whats up with that. There not shallow either. I was riding in 50 to 70 feet of water and the temp on the surface was like 90!!! _________________ "Confucius say, man who stand on toilet high on pot" |
