JeffKnox, che blanc, kyle13, deltarider, Gnarly Dancer 42, Jama, i'm not drunk, but i did break my computer. so i'm posting on someone else's... i want some caramel popcorn
and i read somewhere above that "if god really was loving would he really give up on someone and let them go to hell?" or something like that.
to an unsaved sinner, heaven (an eternity with God), is unbearable, hell (eternity without God) is a RELIEF to that unsaved sinner, the unsaved sinner cannot stand to be in the presence of holy perfection.
sorry if that was addressed already, i didn't have time to read it all

I think that the reason many christians appear to be pushing their beliefs is because they fail to separate fact from opinion, especially when discussing things with people that have different beliefs. It's fine to consider your beliefs to be true. However, don't forget that when you voice that, you're ruling out all other possibilities (thusforth technically calling all of us wrong). It makes one seem very closed-minded.

| Slapdown, do you take a debate class? If so, would you try to debate something you don't think is 100% true?

deltarider, I do all the time. I enjoy playing the "Devils Advocate". Sadly I have many friends who hate me for it. Well, not so much hate me for it, they finally got used to me doing it and now have fun with it when someone around doesn't know I'll do it. They will instigate shizzle for me to have fun with.
deltarider, you said that Jesus Chris is the ultimate truth for you and that you have researched countless other religions to end up where you are now. I have one question for you, have you stopped learning and researching to see what else is out there? To see if their is something that better suits what it is you find to be true or have you stopped with Christianity?
And no, I'm not setting this up for some nice long rebutle to your answer, I'm just curious to see if you have stopped searching or continue to look.

I will say this:
I have not stopped looking, I am looking in Christ, and I am getting answers.
It's not a religion, it's a relationship, to me.

Please give me an example of a religious fact that would be used when debating religion. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm seriously curious.
Are christians closeminded because they follow what the Bible says? So if the Bible says that the only way to heaven is through Jesus and they believed that, are they still closeminded? If someone is open-minded it would mean they would believe all religions could be true. Or would they pick just a few that might be true? Or do open-minded people make their own religion?
Why follow something your not completely sure of? If all religions/belief systems "could" be true, why follow any of them? If so pick the easiest one and hope it's the right one.
I hope I didn't come off as rude, I just want answers haha.
To take a break from debating (or asking questions is my case ), what denomination are the christians here?
I was raised in a Baptist church, went to a pentacostal church for a short while, and currently go to a non-demoniational church where my girlfriend and I are the leaders of the childrens ministry (not "pastors" yet).

Just curious for your guys' thoughts on this. For those of you who say the Bible is Gods Word and should be followed as such. I'm not saying I agree with it, it's just something I found and thought it would be interesting to bring up.
| Quote: |
On Laura Schlessinger's radio show , she said
that homosexuality is an abomination, according to
Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any
circumstances.
The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura,
penned by a US resident, which was posted on the
Internet. It's funny, as well as thought-provoking.
******************************************
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding
God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and
try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.
When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for
example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
states it to be an abomination... End o debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some
other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both
male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring
nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans,
but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned
in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would
be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while
she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24.
The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women
take offense.
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it
creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my
neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I
smite them?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the
Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to
death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or
should I ask the police to do it?
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating
shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser
abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you
settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar
of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit
that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be
20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed,
including the hair around their temples, even though this
is expressly forbidden by Lev. 9:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a
dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football
if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by
planting two different crops in the same field, as does
his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds
of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse
and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to
all the trouble of getting the whole town together to
stone them (Lev.24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them
to death at a private family affair, like we do with people
who sleep with their in-laws (Lev.20:14)?
I know you have studied these things extensively and thus
enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am
confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that
God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Well, have fun. If anyone wants some Kettle-Corn, I got some one the way.

lol at the Dr. Laura.
Anyways, I want to point out that I go/went to a christian youth group all 3 years of middle school and all 4 years of high school, every week on my own will. The group of guys in my grade met up with our leader at his house again every week, just to hang out and talk about the week and to do some bible study. There is sooooo much more to the bible than damnation and salvation and it's weird that so much of that gets skipped over when it's being taught. There are plenty of good stories and parables that teach great life lessons, but I wouldn't have even known about them unless there was a passage about eternal hellfire on the page next to it.
If you have a chance, read as much of the bible as you can with an objective and open mind. There's some good stuff in there. Just make sure you can sort through what you believe and what you don't as you're going through it. You can't just take it all as gospel

My one rationale for posting is that I wanted to throw my views out there and maybe get a few thinking and wanting to know more, but I will not defend them on a online forum. I wasn't being pushy, but only trying to make a few realize they already know the ethics of what I'm saying. PM me and I will give you my number and we can have a discussion if you like.
Although I won't argue on this site, I will give you my crudentials so you don't think I'm on here blowing smoke. I have taken bible history 1 & 2 at my high school in an attempt to learn all I could before I solidified my beliefs. I am involved in younglife. My own grandmother is an Episcopal pastor.
Even so my beliefs stand, but are not limited to, what I wrote in my earlier post.

Steven M, Taking different verse from the Bible out of context can cause a lot of confusion.
Many of those laws were supposed to last "through the generations" which you would find if you read the verses around the tiny exerpts in that guys letter. Some of these laws were meant to teach things to certain people at certain times. So it is believe that when these generations ceased so did the laws that were labled "throughout your generations".
I found this list online to attempt to support my statement and to avoid being labled close-minded.
Genesis 17:9,10 - Circumcision
Exodus 12:14; Leviticus 23:21,31,41 - Holy feast days
Exodus 29:42; 30:10 - Animal sacrifices
Exodus 30:8 - Incense
Exodus 30:31 - Holy anointing oil
Exodus 31:13-17 - Sabbath observance
Exodus 40:15; Numbers 18:23 - Levitical priests in the tabernacle.
The letter is funny but for someone that has actually read the whole book of the Bible, and not just part, it wasn't really thought provoking at all.
As far as homosexuality, I don't know enough to get into it too much. Although Jesus never says it's wrong in the new testament, neither does he mention that thigns like rape and incest are wrong. Also paul mentions it's wrong in Corinthians.
But like I said, I don't know much about it, just trying to offer up what I do know.
che blanc, I disagree that that 99% or Chrstians believe that the entire Bible insn't true. On the contrary I can't remeber many christians that I've met that don't believe the Bible isn't true. Maybe it was just the Churchs I have been apart of. Im sure theres plenty of christians out there to support what you said but I wouldn't use a percentage that high. Also, I think gnarly dancer or whatever was talking about "event and date wise". I saw a thing on the history channal that proved the Bible accurate time wise and had facts to support events like the flood and when the egyptian army got wiped out after the Nile river closed back up and stuff. Not saying these are "facts" to prove my point, but it is interesting to say the least.

kyle13, There's a difference in believing something to be true and claiming it to be 100% accurate.

| Sorry, maybe I am confusing 100% truth with 100% accuracy. Give me an example of something that is inaccurate about the Bible so I understand what your talking about.

| If there is one untruth or inaccuracy in the Bible than nothing else in it is believable. You must believe all or none. As I said earlier you must study it and other religion to find truth.

| I think che blanc is talking inaccuracy in the form of metaphors. I have heard of people that think that events like the creation of the earth in 7 days and such shouldnt be taken literally but should be viewed as symbolic or metaphorical. Am I right che? For the record I believe the Bible is both 100% truth and accurate.

kyle13, Yeah, for the most part. I'm not going to get too deep into alterations made by the Council of Nicea, but there are things in there "quoted" from Jesus that I don't believe he ever actually said. They were implemented to enforce the rules of man, rather than teach the counsel of Christ.

| che blanc, when you pick and choose what is true and not true in the Bible you have created your own religion. Maybe you should call it United Church of Manatee Riders.
