| ok.let somebody scream at me.but i kno how hard that must be but to me that is ugly.ide much rather see a w2w kickflip flicked and caught then having a mobbed double flip land on the water feet close together on the nose.this is just an opinion from somebody coming with a skateboard background. |

You know, these things just take time. I don't even know how many of those things matt's landed, but practice and experience is essential. And he's said on here more than once that he's all about riding with a good, clean style. So it's not like he's some dude that doesn't care about how a trick looks and instead, is just about doing a trick for the sake of doing it.
And I don't even know how consistent he is with that trick, so who knows how long it would really take to get a clean one. I'd rather see that trick now while it's hot and fresh, as opposed to waiting however long it takes to get it perfect. And when this stuff was announced on the site, EVERYONE wanted to see it. So there it is, take it or leave it.
nice work, matt. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

Coming from some one without a skateboard back ground this is pure progression and freaking awesome. This is wakeskating not skateboarding, and therefore should not be critiqued in a skateboarding manner. This is taking away from wakeskating having an identity of its own imo. |

actually, having skateboarding as something to look to for inspiration is a really good thing. I would be willing to put money down that skating's progression and the fact that the style and tricks are established have helped [wake]skating progress faster than any board sport out there, EVER. So to look towards skating for style and inspiration is not a bad thing. and again, look at what a lot of the young guys out there say (reed hansen, matt manzari, danny hampson, etc) and they'll all say that they're inspired by skating, and I know that matt has said stuff about riding with good style. and ultimately, I think it's cool that they all are pushing for something greater.
what's harsh is to expect a trick to be 100% proper right out of the gate. even though wakeskating has progressed fast, there are things that still need to be worked out. And I think you can see that each generation that's followed has stepped things up tremendously. Look at where daniell lovette's (sp) wake to wake kickflip started, and then look at what riders today are doing. (yeah, nick's wake to wake flip in issue 4 is retarded, right?==>I mean that like black eyed peas retarded, "btw.") Matt manzari is off to an amazing start with his technical wake to wake tricks...it's going to be pretty insane to see where it all ends up.
In my opinion, the medium is what makes wakeskating unique, and wack style shouldn't be what one looks towards to give wakeskating its own identity (at least, if you're in the position to push the art). Style applications (and critiques, if we want to get all snobby about it) don't take away from wakeskating and its uniqueness. What's tried and true helps make it better--look at an older skate video and then look at what's going on today and you'll definitely see an evolution in style and terrain. The tricks in wakeskating are very skate influenced (which I probably don't have to say), and the fact that you really have to work for what you want (or most of us do, trick wise ) is one aspect that makes it (wakeskating) appealing, even if you don't ride a skateboard. But there are also the little things that make it count...the way you can work with the wake and your surroundings (you can go from flats to re-entry to straight up transition riding whenever you want, if you even want)...and like the way the medium responds, like the splash and the trail of water that follows you when you do a trick...I think it's all pretty special. Take advantage of everything because there's a lot to work with...
And ultimately, it's hard to deny the influence skating has had on wakeskating's earliest trailblazers... _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

| what are we debating on. i thought this was a thread with matt's double k w2w. has anyone else landed this yet?? i would like to point out that it is IMPOSSIBLE to throw a double kicky w2w without being really good. i guess if you like watching wakeskating movies then a 'mobbed' w2w might not be your thing, but if you appreciate what is going through someones head when they are trying a trick like this and how fast it happens youll probably think its ta shizzzzal |
