|
|
Man, I couldn't fit everything into my subject line. Basically, this thread is a way for everyone on this site to add their two cents, thus far, and make some suggestions for some moves you think are worthy of a nomination into the "wakeskating move of the year" category for the 2007 wakeboaridng magazine wake awards. Kevin Michael at wakeboarding magazine was a big force in putting the wake awards together back in 2004 and it's a really sweet way to celebrate everything that went on in the past year in the world of wake.
For 07, kevin thought it would be a good idea to see what you all were thinking on the subject of wakeskating move of the year. And just know that anyone will be considered! The one thing that you would need, however, is either a still sequence and/or video footage of the trick that's being suggested. They always throw together a nice little highlight reel of the nominated tricks...
Here's a list of the previous winners/nominees included so you can get an idea of what's gone down so far:
2004: Aaron Reed : Back Lip Shove Off Ledge @ the 1st Annual Byerly Toe Jam
2005 Nominations:
Aaron Reed: Backside big spin, wake-to-wake (this move won the 2005 trick of the year award)
Aaron Reed: 360 shove off of the double up
George Daniels: Frontside big spin, wake-to-wake
George Daniels: Kickflip onto a flat rail
Drew McGuckin: Frontside flip over a picnic table
Nick Taylor: 360 flip
Reed Hansen: Backside big flip
Brian Grubb: Heelside board varial off of the double up
Brandon Thomas: Radar Lake pool gap boardslide to down rail
Scott Byerly: Locked in noseslide, shove-out off kinked rail
2006 nominations:
Reed Hansen-Kickflip to down rail Oakley pool-Wakestock (this move won the 2006 move of the year for wakeskating)
Reed Hansen-Frontside Heelflip
Aaron Rathy-Handrail back lip-Toe Jam Winch
George Daniels-Front board, back big spin-Toe Jam Winch
Aaron Reed-Back Tail-Red Bull Adrift
Aaron Reed-bigspin/front board-Red Bull Adrift
Aaron Reed-Back Lip/Back Big-Volume Issue #2
Aaron Reed-Frontside 360 to flats-WWA Nationals
David Hansen-in-to-out shove, back-foot late flip
Kyle Walton-Kickflip out of pool-Hippodrome
Brian Grubb-Front lip, front big-Red Bull Adrift
Brian Grubb-Photo tower 9-foot bomb drop-Malibu Photo Shoot
Brandon Thomas-Switch boardslide front-big- Toe Jam Winch
Adam “Blood” Lawrence-Switch frontside flip, frontside flip _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com*

well, that was a nomination for last year's awards. Now they're looking for new stuff and while he does ask a lot of riders if they have anything for consideration, he's also trying to broaden that horizon a bit. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

TNT gets my vote of the little vid we've seen this year. That 360 bigspin or whatevs was rad. _________________ dbanana wrote:

a board varial is still pretty much a shuvit. I've heard that term used more in vert skating than anything else...as a youngsta, I would have said a board varial was completed more with the use of your hands and less with the "pop-shuv" motion of your feet. You know, like an invert where the skater spins the board 180 degrees with their hand, or like when the board will almost be guided up to the skater's hand and it's spun 180 degrees with the phalanges. Does that all make sense?
So that's what I'd tell you about board varials.
Let me add wake to wake tre flips by matt...those are keepers. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
