IXUS 700 (european name) with underwater housing. It works great for diving and so but the camera itself isn't very impressive. Perhaps the newer Canons are good but BEWARE - DO NOT get into the megapixel race. More megapixels are NOT automatically better.
Everything ofcourse depends on what you're going to use your camera for. Do you want to take shots as well as movies I'd go with Fuji Film or whoever has got underwater housings at reasonable rates. If you're solely into stills you might want to look into semi-pro or even dslr but then we're talking completely different prices.
As stated in another thread in this forum, it's not the gear that makes the photographer. Good gear helps but not more. Photography is a craft like any other and you have to be humble and try to learn from those who master it.
A good photographer takes a few shots and gets it right, a master photographer takes a couple. I'm not even near that level and my only chance is to take as many photos as possible and hope for the best. I know this sounds contradictory but me and my friends are simply not good enough and we can only hope for the best and sometimes the pictures turns out nice while most of the time it's crap but that doesn't matter because you learn something new everytime you look at your last batch of pictures.
On another note, I think the Canon TX-1 looks intresting considering the HD-movie mode.
I hope this helps... at least a little _________________ Jazz up your life !

brohymn07, do you want to shoot stills or footage. I shoot with a cannon XL2. It looks sick. But every year new cameras come out. HD is blowin up right now. but next year they will come up with something new. Now these video's have started shooting film.
Anyone in Austin that wants to get together and collaborate. I've been getting film together to shoot. I just need some riders to throw down. _________________ N-Pain |

brohymn07, If you want a digital SLR...
check out some used canon digital rebel's on ebay and Craigslist. You can score one for around 300 bucks.
The only semi decent enclosure would be the ewa marine bag. They are a pain in the ass, but nothing else comes close to it for the price.
as far as lenses go, check out the canon 50mm F1.8 (its 70 bucks), and look at both the canon and tamron telephotos if you want a cheap tele zoom lense. _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

i usually have my wide angle with a lens hood on it,and i take a clear trash bag and a piece of wire. i cut a hole in the bag put the lens through and take the wire and rap it around the lens hood, holding down the trash bag _________________ "Well it's like, if you want to be a better wakeskater, you don't go hang out with a bunch of roller bladers." - David Hanson |
