Saw Nick's suggestion on a thread down below and went out and bought the parts today. Took every bit of 30 minutes and $100.

Sick
Did you screw the flanges to the board? Usually I leave them on the poles so that you can estimate distance between the poles when you start putting them in the water. Once you get one pole in, put the board with the trex on it next to it with as much of the end as you want past it to mimic the position you have it in that picture. Then put in the pole for the other end, and then the two in the middle. Make sure you keep the board in the water so that you line them up strait.
Once you got all the poles in, don't put them all the way down to where they are going to be, leave about a foot more. THat way, you can drill up through the flanges to connect the wood to the poles. Use 1 1/2" screws so it doesn't go through the trex. Then you can just finish pounding the rail in, but be careful not to mess up the trex. Have fun and shred it!

i supplied the piece of wood. everything else was right at $90 or so.
the poles were $11 a pop. you could get smaller ones if you have shallow water(private pond)
it was worth it. it took 10 minutes to pound it in the ground. |

nice job man, I have built several rails and this is by far the best design I have seen. Let us know how it rides and how easy it is to make it portable. |

gnargnar, it can be portable. we carried the top rail part and 4 poles on my seadoo to the cove we ride in. we just leave it a few feet in the woods since it's a public lake. just leave it put together and pick it up(only takes 2 people) put it where we want. after that we just took a sledge hammer(rubber based) to it for 5-10 minutes and bam.
it's very portable if need be.
i'll be adding to it. |

do you think it would work to buy more flanges and screw them into some wood to make feet? _________________ "it feels good being on the caboose of the progression train"

Wakeness450, i don't see that working too well.
you could however buiild some sort of foot/bottom with out of wood and put a flange on. i'd rather have my burried in the mud than feet. |

Wakeness450, why not? it's not permanent at all. it takes 5-10 minutes of hitting it with a rubber sledge hammer. when done just shake it around a few times and pull it out and take it apart. |

lake tarpon, 12 ft. i'm doubling it soon.
Wakeness450, you can't screw the poles once pounded in the mud. just have it all put together and you can pound the entire thing easily. |
