|
|
Okay....I know ya'll can help me out with this one. So here's the deal..... I was riding all last summer(06) on the 07 Team Machine. A rider here in town gets decks early from Mikey and i was riding with him quite a bit last season...SOOOOO.....i started ridin' his deck a lot. I kicked my smashed up Impulse to the curb and really started to get used to homie's Team Machine....Really started liking it too. ANyway's this season rolls around and i'm like 'okay, i've already had mad ride time on this bad boy, like it, and am gettin' it for sure this season'. I go pick it up, start shreddin' it...Havin' a grand ole' time right? But then start doin' my boardslides and spins on the lip and the thing keeps catchin' edges and tossin me....So i'm like WTF this is gay...i'm catchin' edges on surface spins???? Days later i notice the concave on the bottom of the deck...stupid me right? Well homie's Team Machine(same graphic and all) that i got used to was one of the flat decks and wasn't concaved like the ones out now...In actuality last year i was riding a flat(no concave on the graphic side) Oak deck with the 07 TM graphic, then when i went to get my own, the deck was shaped differently through the lathe. Mikey T either changed the shape before 07 hit or i was just riding another model with the same graphic in 06....weird huh?
First: Is the mold i'm currently riding more for w2w since its got the concave bottom(i.e. holds an edge better than a flat deck)?
Second: Does anyone else have any issues on the lip when slidin' this deck around or is it just me not used to the concaveness of the bottom?
Third: Is it still possible to slide this concaved deck as easy as a flat deck, once used to it?
Fourth: Is it a defective deck? That did cross my mind....but didn't think anything of it.
Fifth: I'm not a beginner, i'm not a pro either, but fact of the matter is i think the way that deck is shaped(on bottom, not top obviously) is givin' me issues on slidin' in and out of tricks on the lip, not to mention a couple butter slides too when the water's like a mirror.
Sorry for the long post, but this has been on my mind and i'm confused and quite frankly, pissed about it Start shootin' fellas...answers, opinions, thoughts.
Muchas Gracias all........ _________________ @rgetter

I can't be sure I know what you're talking about because I haven't seen an oak with a concave bottom up close...like I don't recall the samples at the expo being as such.
But at any rate, the 05 impulses (and 06, since the design didn't change) had a sort of concave-ish feature on the base of their boards, and I didn't have a problem with it at all. In fact, I thought it made that board pop like crazy. But that's just me. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

electricsnow, Don't get me wrong...i love the pop it has, but board slidin' and rotatin' on that deck is so weird...it wants to catch real easily, unlike flat bottomed decks...if you lay the deck on the floor, you can look under it and see daylight on the other side...gnarly shape, all i could think of was specifically molded for extreme pop and w2w...i dunno though _________________ @rgetter |

Why don't you just ask your "homie" about it since he knows Mikey |

Maybe it's just something you'd have to get used to. I'd think that the edges would have more to do with you catching your edge more than anything else. But that's my logic, and i don't design boards.
EDIT: convex would mean the base would bubble out like glasses (spectacles) or something. The LF boards (including last year's LE reed) had a concave thing going on, for sure. If I felt like digging out my reed, I'd post a picture. but mentally, I'm wearing some crocs, which means that I can't be bothered. (that's a shout out to johnnyutah. and I'd only wear those things in my imagination because I'd never be caught dead or alive with those things physically on my feet.)
Now, I'm outta here with my croc hate! _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |

labellethrasher, just got to the bottom of it i think...word on the street is that some came out defective...my buddy at the local shop will take care of it, he's the one that i bought it from...my homie that gets decks from Mikey doesn't really have anything to do with it...i was just comparing my skate to his, thats all, they were wicked different too...surely i can get a new replacement for a defective shred stick.... _________________ @rgetter |

LakeLife, If it's an extreme convex, maybe the wood warped over time? _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

LakeLife, I have some old boards that are warped that way.... I would say that is what happened, Its not oaks fault or anything so dont think i'm knocking them, its something that happens to some boards...... Again i'm not sure but i have seeen it happen more then once. _________________
