cause if i wanted fins i would ride a wakeboard
this is the mindset that will set wakeskating back a couple years.
maybe i just didnt understand what you meant by the above? Wakeskating is already in a forward motion at such a great speed. |

kento911, mmmm i do agree that your mindset is all that makes you pop better, but i disagree that all fins are good for is edging harder. the main thing that's great about fins to me is not slipping out. w2w back180s and other stuff landing switch toeside it is SO nice to have that fin in there just to lock ya in.
they also DO help make your tricks cleaner, mostly because of what i said above (less slip out factor). like, when you land something and then turn sideways and just start sliding it just looks ugly, it's all about STICKIN it, ya know? and that's what fins help with. for example, go watch some of lemon's stuff in such is life. definitely coulda used a fin or two (or three or four) there.
but for some reason people think that it is ONLY possible to pop tricks or land clean WITH fins, and that is not true at all. i'm just saying it helps and i've experienced so many people go through the transistion of riding finless to riding with fins and they love it (even advanced riders).
in the end...it's preference. saying riding finless is "less legit" is like saying that skateboarding with loose trucks is less legit than skating with tight trucks. and no body says that, so...yeah.
peace. _________________

yeah, the truck commentary is strange (like if anyone would ever say that in skating). The thing is, trucks will effect how you turn (and some dudes will also loosen and tighten trucks, based on what they're riding), but the wheels are what give you traction. A fin pretty much has to act as both...a fin (as kento said) will effect how you turn, but then as you said, it will also provide traction (and yes, will help you clean up some of your mess). It's funny like that...someone made the analogy of wheels being like fins, in that wheels on a skateboard are what give you that traction to keep it steady. It's just to keep it clean is all...
So anyway, obviously hard wheels (and loose trucks?) are less legit because they're harder and therefore, they make it easier to revert your tricks.
Just kidding. God.
But seriously...I want to make some sort about schwenking it, but I don't have a good one. I guess i"m too tired.
Anyway Narc-P rider, nice post. _________________ *The opinions expressed are on my behalf and not those of wakeskating.com* |
