I just got the best Christmas Present this morning. Our Japanese Team rider, Yoda, just sent me a scan of the new Alliance Japan. We did a full article on his trip to Canada this summer. Chances are, no one in the US will see this issue, so I am printing it here.

Rock on!

Gavin

Having a degree in International Relations; speaking Japanese, and understanding the importance of emerging markets all helped...

I used to live there, and I have close friends over there. Wakeskating is still super small over there, but it is growing.

I remember your wild snowboarding stories from japan...

you posted them, of course.

I know a small amount of cantonese....basically, everything they used in wayne's world.

Nothing beats snowboarding in Japan...nothing! The stories are wild and all true.

Chinese is impossibly hard. It is super hard for English speakers to grasp the tones. Japanese is much easier.

Japan does not have very good elevation. It is alot like Vermount or Quebec.

What makes snowboarding in Japan so awesome is the snow. It gets more GOOD snow than anywhere. Cold fronts come down from Siberia and go across the ocean. When they hit the mountains of Japan, it DUMPS! A Sha-it load.

The other awesome thing about snowboarding in Japan are the trees. There are almost no ever green trees on the mountains. They are almost all Deciduous trees. Therefore, you don't need to worry about tree wells, and the trees are spread apart enough that you can really carry your speed well. That, and it creates a Cathedral effect. On the main Island, Honshu, it is bad luck to snowboard in the trees, so only foreigners do it. In the Northern Island, Hokkaido, everyone rides the trees.

Fianlly, every resort in Japan has natural hot springs. So after riding, you go get drunk in the hot springs. It is the Sha-it. Niseko Hirafu in Hokkaido is the best resort fo powder.
