good day, but we missed all the trick shots because our digital seems to take the pic late. Any tips would be appreciated.

Most digital cameras take pictures a little late. I hate it personally. My only advice is... well...
Get used to timing.

I used a point and shoot camera for action sports for a long time. you really just have to get used to it like slapdown said. take a ton of shots, I figured it out eventually, sometimes it takes a few trys to get the shot you want.. or if you want to spend some money, get a canon rebel xt, and a cheap telephoto lense. its going to cost you about a grand though. money well spent if you are really into taking photos, imo.

You could try half pressing the shutter and then then when you want to take the shot press the shutter button all the way down. For most PnS cameras doing a half button (shutter) press will get the camera all ready to take the picture.

archcityblues...what is the camera you're using and what settings did you have it on?

| I have a Fugifilm digital A345. I don't think I have a rapid shot function. I've heard that with some camera's you can film a video and get still shots from the video. Does anyone use this?

archcityblues, When you do that, more than likely, the quality is crap.

archcityblues, I'm pretty sure you don't have any kind of constant drive shooting on that camera. Like Chris Barcellos said, if you're into photography you might consider picking up an EOS 300D (digi rebel) or EOS 350D (Rebel XT)...
You could shoot video and then pull still frames out of it, but it will look like crap. Chances are your camera's resolution for video is something lame like 220x147, so it wouldn't be worth your time really.
I think you'll either need to learn to get used to the lag, and doing the half press on the shutter or pick up a different camera.

my recommendation for that camera would be to set it to manual and give yourself the fastest shutter speed you can, within your given lighting situation, then keep practicing with the lag and pushing the shutter release button halfway down to get the camera ready to shoot.
Past that, if you really want to improve the quality of your photos, you'll probably have to upgrade your camera equipment. My experience is it is best to get still photos from a good still camera and get video from a good video camera, speaking for quality of course.
Having said all that, if you spend time getting used to your camera, you'll find that you can get some much better shots.

use the shutter so it'll take multiple shots per second. that way you'll have a good chance on capturing the trick being done.

big_dee45, then good timing would be the next best option. is it possible to capture it on video then cut the part where the trick is done and convert it to a photo?
