I'm answering this question on the grounds that maybe you shut your brain off when you asked it.
All you need is water and something to tow. A lot of wakeskating's appeal comes from the endess possibilities of spots to ride.

Riding on the sea is great, you'll need a very calm day; but hitting swell being towed is ludicrous. You can launch, you can let go and ride the wave; it's great if you can catch it on the right day,"early".
Salt water is denser therefore harder than fresh water. It really throws you for a loop when you switch. It seems to me you have to pop your tricks a lot harder in fresh water because you have less resistance. In saltwater I seem to get more pop when I go for a big trick, hence more resistance. _________________ dbanana wrote:

I've only ridden freshwater maybe 5 or 6 times.
Go saltwater. |

Raven, you can really notice it that substantially? I ride fresh half the time and salt half the time and all I notice in salt is when you fall it tastes worse and I feel more vulnerable. _________________ Get ya' hair did. |

Where i used to ride in houston it was all connected to the bay and the gulf. Closer to the bay was really salty, but farther back where we usually ride was brackish. But i think salt water def. holds a harder edge and is more grippin and not quit as fast. Cause once i got up to austin and freshwater, my style got really sketchy and i had a harder time stickin tricks. idk.. just really weird. But i could def. tell a diff. riding in salty/brackish water compared to fresh. |

There is more surface tension in salt water so when you ollie there is more resistance making it easier and quicker. Saltwater is heavier and just seems more stable to ride in.
I've ridden both, and although everyone and I agree says saltwater is easier to throw down in. I'll take fresh water every day of the week, it's fresh clean feeling takes the cake. _________________ dbanana wrote:

I ride primarily in salt, been stung by jelly fish and experienced the ever so nasty salt water enema. About 75% of the time I see seals, they usually poke their head out of the water about 50 yds away. One of the coolest things i saw was an early morning ride while carving away from the boat I look over my left shoulder and see a seal bobbing in the water with his breakfast....it was about a 15 lbs salmon hanging from his mouth...very cool...
Also you get a lot of obstacles to ollie over.....crab trap buoys, logs and other shrapnel that has broken away from docks.
The biggest difference i find compared to fresh water is a simple surface spin feels grippier in fresh which i attribute to my skate riding lower in the less boyant fresh water. |

And.... wich i have noticed since i moved from salt to fresh in the winter season... Fresh water is alot colder then salt.... but some of that might have to do that half the lakes in austin are damed off... |
