I finally found a friend with a Dremel to cut the copper tubing to cover the teeth on the saw blades. I seriously broke 15+ little dremel cutting blades to cut 72" of copper. Those things blow! After slicing the tube, i ran a flathead screwdriver through the cut to widen it. Then I slapped some JB Weld on the teeth and ran the copper around the blade, crimped it down with plyers, and hammered the copper trim to the blade from both sides with 2 hammers. I feel confident that its now part of the spool... check it out!

lookin good. my dad figures that warp in the blade may cause sime things to go out of balance but the slow speeds might not be too bad. nice job with the lead soder Very Happy how much of itdid u use? we did not weld our spool to the rod. just so u kno we used a key so we cold take the spool offif needed

Yeah it probably will wobble to death. I didn't use solder-it's JB Weld (a glue-like cold weld). If it's too much shake, we'll have to grind the spool off of the axle and pay a machine shop to make a concentric spool for use. Thanks for the concern tho- our whole build looks like it was constructed on Junkyard Wars. which is cool with me tho cuz that sho was the shizzle! Smash

I love livin @ my college house with my friends but starting a project like this winch made me realize how much I miss all my tools back home. I called everyone i know at about 9pm and not a single damn person has a drill with a cord. Trying to drill holes in metal with an 18V while taking turns rotating 2 batteries on the charger is a son of a beach......

The Clutch arrives tommorow (shizzle it's late- today i guess i could say). All we lack is throwing the clutch and chain on. Once it works, we'll strip the parts back off and give the frame a paint job...

jerrysk8, Intresting design. It looks like the chain from the engine to the lower axle is has no gear ratio change, pretty cool. have you guys used it yet?

can anyone give me a rough measure of the width of the engine? Say looking from the top down, a measure parallel to the output shaft from the tip of the shaft to the far side of the engine? Mine won't be here till next wed but I am trying to figure out the minimum width I can make this thing
