I still think the best choice is a true gear meshing trans the advantage is no loss of horsepower due to friction, and slippage and also a smoother pull

For the most part, everything went according to plan with the construction and welding of our frame. It looks rugged and mean. Suprisingly, it's not as heavy as I thought it would be. HERE ARE SOME PICTURES: enjoy~

My first weld ever...it needed work! gotta start somewhere tho!

The only tube that we actually had to grind a sliver off of to fit.

Welding the spool was by far the most challenging task of the day. We didn't have the right welding rods for the job and the extreme heat caused the saw blades to warp during welding. Amazingly, the inside tube of the spool is dead center and spins as straight as a wheel. It's kinda funny really-it goes along with our rugged look. Plus, with the guide sending the rope to the center of the spool, we shouldn't have anything serious to worry about. But before the test day, we still have to glue some trim over the teeth of the saw blade for safety. We ran out of time today so we didnt get to grind the teeth off like we had planned. Oh well, I'm not perfect-can't expect our winch to be...

Like the wavey sidewalls of our spool? It should be interesting to watch it spin...

-GOODNIGHT-

its commin along nicely. i was considering the european design as well. let me know how it works. we decided to put the spool higher than the engine so the rope wouldnt be so low but if u have it on a trailer it will be fine. those blades look kinda warped. was that due to too much heat? i hope that doesnt effect spin. we used diamond blades on our spool so that might be a factor in strength. im very interested in how things work out for u guys. keep the progress reports commin

pimp Very Happy

yeah the blades warped from the heat when we were welding, and we are in the process of finding something to put on the saw blades so they cant cut anything , oh yeah the spool is perfectly centered on the axle so its all good, all thats left is clutch gears chain rope guide and then it should be ready to go, we will most likely paint it and add a trailer hitch bar

Sorry.... english is not my best.... so..... what is the "spool"?

Also.... on the european winch, they have that kinda rope guide, 4 cilinders..... any tips on that?

Also... I'm using a 13 hp 4 stroke engine, so it migth be a bit heavy to pull the rope when it is connected. i'm thinking about using a chain that can disconect from the rope when you whant to puul it.

Also... what's the minimum the rope must handle?

Thanks for advices.... we rope to post the photos of the process on building the first latin wakeskate winch soon!!! Good luck for everyone...

BRAZIL-CONCAVEwakeskates, the spool is the part on the metal shaft that the rope is wound up on... and i think the rope guide you saw on the european winch was bought... our rope guide was a i bolt which works like a dream... Chris41, yea i just found out about that site but i will still be happy to answer any questions people have on this forums as well...

Thanks for all the feedback. yeah, if we didnt do anything else to our spool, i think we would cut through rope like a..., well i don't know, but like something that's sick at cutting through shizzle. My plan as of right now is this: I got some flexible copper refrigeration line and I am hoping to slice down the center with a Dremel tool and JB Weld it around the teeth of the blade. If were successful, it will solve the problem-if not, im out $8 and need more advice. In the long run, we have a friend planning on engineering a solid spool @ MTSU's shop here on campus - so if this one goes, we have a solid backup (actually much better than this one but were in a hurry to start tryin it out). Like [fsFlip13] said, we were fortunate that the reel is centered perfectly on the shaft so we won't get any rope hop during pulls. The gearing begins today... we will be back with updates ASAP__/\___/\___

Oh [Chris41], I was going to make some posts on Winchskating.com but my account hasn't been activated. I registered saturday night and haven't been accecpted yet! What's the deal? my username is also MTwakeRaiderz on your site.

-THANKS-
