kento is the one to talk to about dirtbike engines... his pirate winch uses a 150 cc 4 stroke engine i believe... your speeds are determined by your gear ratios and your spool size... everyones is different... you just have to do the math your self in order to get the results you are lookin for... i think a 6.5 hp engine will be just fine... the vast majority uses them... if not i would recomend useing a more powerful gocart engine just because it will be much simpler to build... o and it is definately worth it... we havnt even completely finished ours but the building alone is fun as hell .. you know bein with your bros and such... if you want our exact measurements and stuff just to compare you can pm me... hope this helps _________________ Nothin better than Wakeskating and Motocross!

WERE DONE!!!!!!!
just some minor fine tuning still needs to be done but it is running and going to be further tested tomorrow
sorry the pics are so small.... image shack made me shrink them... if you click on them they get bigger... enjoy; and tell us what you think _________________ Nothin better than Wakeskating and Motocross!

Damn Jeff... that bracket you made for the engine is a lot bigger than I invisioned. Does the motor shake at all when its cranked on that bracket? I can't imagine that it would... but I'm just curious. How fast did it pull RJ on the skateboard? I know you said fast enough... but i'm curious now and your ass has gone to bed. Anyway... all you guys should be thanking me for my superior knowledge that I provided when I was down there this week. Most of it was really just to get you guys to argue about shizzle... it was funny... but it worked because it got y'all talking about different shizzle. And btw... I like the bearings on the inside of the frame opposed to the outside. Wonder who thought of that.
Anyway... see y'all Thursday in West Virginia... If I buy a new snowboard one of you slackers can use my other one if you want.

damn! you guys work fast! you should shoot a short video of it in action, on a skateboard or wakeskate. your axel sproket seems smaller than most winches, but im curious to see how it turned out. badass _________________ integrity-wake.com | chriscut.com |

Dynamo, there was no vibration at all! it worked like a champ
Chris Barcellos, yeah... that axle sprocket is mad small, but thats how it worked out when i did the math... we'll see today if i messed up! _________________ Aloha |

Yeaaaaaaa I like the desighn I think that it will pull just fine and with the smaller sproket it should pull a little faster than the blackbox or pulldozer. Good work guys I think i should hire you guys to build mine How hard would it be to add a hand brake? would you need a different clutch? |

there really isnt a need for a handbreak... just pull back the throttle before the rider runs into you ...lol... haha we wont build yours but we will definatley help as much as we can... DIY is the best way to go... _________________ Nothin better than Wakeskating and Motocross!

[quote="Jthat axle sprocket is mad small, but thats how it worked out when i did the math... we'll see today if i messed up![/quote]
how did you calculate it?
i did i like this for mine:
engine max is 3600 rpm, since it hardly costs any power to keep te same speed if your on the water the motor will eventually go near the 3600 tpm
at 3600tpm i wanted to go 32 kilometres (20miles) per hour max .
my gear reduction is 1 : 2.5, so the drum has max 1440 tpm / 86400 tp hour
next i determined the drum size at 11cm (11 x 3.14 x 86400 = 29.8 kilometres an hour, you can chance any of these figures except the 3.14, if dont know why you cant chance 3.14, go to your math teacher )
i wanted a big drum to avoid speending up to much, if you start with a drum of 5cm an finish with 10 (becuase the rope increases your drum diameter)

yea we did the same thing except backwards... we had the spool we wanted and worked out the ratios from that... since our spool was really tiny our sprocket sizes in turn were tiny... we also made the max speed about 30... that way if ure goin too fast you can always pull back on the throttle... _________________ Nothin better than Wakeskating and Motocross!

good looking winch you have there. how has that gear/spool diameter worked out so far? Also, i believe you said you were using some rope rated at about 770 lbs tensile strength? any issues with that stuff? BTW i am liking the shield you made to protect the spool from the engine, good idea |

We got our 6HP Briggs & Stratton OHV engine lined up! Winching shizzle should be much more exciting than pressure washing. We are set to weld the frame this weekend. Still debating on gearing and rope spool issues but its exciting enough that the build is underway- Thanks to everyone for detailed pictures and info... we will also closely document our whole project. here's what we got so far~

you guys want to hear some sweet news? well you are going to anyways. TheLeprechaun, and JimTheArchangel, broke our freaking engine, and then left for a ski trip, so ill give you one guess who has to fix it, thats right kids, i do, lucky for me i know what to look at to fix, they said something is wrong with the spark, as in there is no spark at all, but hopefully its just cause they ran it in the rain while i wasnt there, so i freaking have to fix the crap with only a slight idea of whats wrong, but other than the $60 made in china engine, everything else seems to be up to par, ill keep yall posted on how my engine ordeal goes, and if you have any input on what to fix, please give me a hand and ill give you one of these thanks _________________ florida+waves=gay
