I resently sent my resume and a letter to straight line asking about how does straight line hand out there sposorships. I wasn't asking for a sporship but they wrote a really sweet reply:

Evan,

I'm very impressed with the progressive thinking and dedication that you seem to
show towards the sports of wakeboarding and wakeskating. It is great to know
that you along with so many others are so stoked on these sports, people like
you will help legitimize our sports even more to the world.

Here is a rough idea of how we organize our sponsorships:

We keep our national team fairly small and typically the riders will be well
known or what we consider soon-to-be well knowns of the sport. We rely on our
reps and sometimes dealers to sponsor athletes at a more regional level as they
typically are better in tune of their areas and who is truly representing and
pushing the sports around them.

From reading your resume, it sounds like you are headed down the right track as
far as representing your sponsors in your area, so keep up the good work and
maybe we'll cross paths at a tournament down the road.

Thanks for the support!

My Resume

name: Evan Park

date of birth: June 8, 1989.

age: 14

place of residence: Delta, BC, Canada

school: All years of Elementary school (Sunshine Hills) and I’m in grade 9 at Seaquam
Secondary.

personality: I’m a “go getter” for sure. When I get something in my head I go for it. I
would always be trying to figure out something to support LF.

years on water: I’ve been on the water since I was 3 months old.

board/skate: Hyperlite 132 Byerly and Hyperlite Spin Bindings (soon to be LF). Cassette
reel to reel skate.

where I ride: Genoa Bay on Vancouver Island (on the ocean).

years wakeboarding/wakeskating: I started wakeboarding during the summer of 2002
and I started wakeskating this past summer.

favorite trick on wakeboard: Big grabs and big grab 180’s. On wakeskate: Anything
sliding the wake. Ollie 180’s and frontside lipslides, backside 270 out.

tricks I’m working on: Backside 180’s, Backrolls and TS frontside 3’s. On wakskate,
anything wake2wake and shuv-its.

other sports: snowboarding, hockey, skateboarding, sailing

years of competition: I started at the end of this past summer

number of comps entered: 3 comps. 1 Van. Island tour (Comox Lake), 2 Hyperlite Tour
(Horne Lake and Abbotsford)

place in comps: Comox: 5 out of 6. Horne: 5 out of 7. Abbostford: 5 out of 7 in my heat.
Last place in heat for wakeskate. (was in the hardest heat)
support from companies: I’m friends with Murray Fraser and I’m good friends with
Ryan P. & Jay A. from Hyperlite. They have also asked me to work for them at the boat
show. Have helped out at their tent at tour stops. I’ve been offered to work at the
Predator helmets tent if they sponsor a comp.

my story: My dad and mom are sailors and we have a sailboat on the Island and we have
a Zodiac and that’s the boat I learned to wakeboard/skate behind.

rider friends: Kevin (Henflobber) Henshaw, Sean Pederson, Boardroom Guys, Trevor
Johnson (I think that’s his last name) and other Island Riders.

gear bought from “Boat and Board”: Handle, vest, t-shirts, sweaters and hat.

what I want to do to support LF: Wear your clothes to comps and school. Put stickers
on car (which I already have), Ride LF boards/bindings/skate, support LF at comps, give
out stickers, support LF on wakeboard/skate websites such as Forums that people talk
about companies. Also, I would be a positive and supportive representative of LF and the
Board and Boat Shop.

summer job history: Helped dock boats and worked in the store at the Genoa Bay
Marina since I was 10 years old. Whenever I docked a boat, I always tried to help the
person find their way around the marina and its facilities. I also try to support the marina
in wakeboarding too. I put a Genoa Bay sticker on my board. Next summer, I’m going
to be working at the Genoa Bay Cafe.

other things that have to do with wakeboarding: I have recently sent in a letter to
“Wakeboard Magazine” about why you don’t need a $50,000 boat to have fun on your
board. The senior editor, Kevin Michael, has said to me that he may put my article in the
March issue of WBM. My friends tell me that I’m to obsessed with
wakeboarding/skating but really, I just love the sport. It’s definitely one sport that I could
never stop doing. I spend a lot of my time on researching wakeboarding/skating on the
internet, so if I know a lot about all the LF products. I have tried to support the sport of
wakeskating by sending many e-mails to Ian Kellow and Jude about how to get
wakeskating as a regular division on the Vancouver Island Tour and the BCWSA tour.

what I want to achieve next season: I want to ride more with my friends and maybe get
to ride with “Henflodder” so he can teach me some new tricks. I also want to hit all the
BCWSA/Van Island tour stops.
