My friend is thinking about buying an 80 horsepower, 700cc jetski and is wondering if that would be enough to comfortably pull a rider. i use a 120hp and sometimes it struggles with a heavier rider so any imput would be appreciated.

sorry..never mind.......but i still don't think that has enough power. it really depends on how much torque and acceleration it has.

Mr. Top Hat, Is not very much power imo, and sounds to me like its a two stroke.

Two stroke skis suck ass! they are nearly impossible to keep a decent speed with and you will spend more time working on it than you will riding behind it.

2 strokes suck some serious ass. We were doing tow ins last weekend during the hurricane and flipped one for about 2 seconds flipped it back over and already had h2o in the engine. 2 stroke motors are meant to be rebuilt after so many hours no matter how good you are to it, 4 strokes are meant to last.... save your $$$ and buy a bigger 4 stroke

UMMMMM well your all gay................. Rolling Eyes
i know i said i wasn't going to post anymore butthis is freaking ridicoules, The best part about wakeskating is that you dont have to have the best boat/jetski you can go out behind whatever and shred. I say f##@ anyone who says you have to do it one way or the other.

and as far as maintence goes..... thats not true at all. I worked at a jetski shop for years. As long as you take care of your ski. It will last along time. If its a sea-doo and you want it to run forever use the sea-doo gold oil. It has the high ash content that the boat really needs. (This is only true for sea-doo and i dont recomend using kawasaki yamalube or whatever other kind of oil. Stick with maxima oil, its a bit overkill but its better to be overkill then to be rebuilding a motor.)

me and jeff engen learned everytrick we know behind a 92 seadoo that he bought for $1200, the slower motor will actually make it easier to keep a constant speed.

And also if you have trouble keeping a constant speed on a 2 stroke you need a carb job. Tell your friend to buy it, ride behind it and then crash it into the first rich a$$ homo riding behind the ski his parent bought him. Wink

anyway you'll be able to get up behind it for sure. have fun and Very Happy when you skate

Im not ragging on the fact that he doesnt have some sick ass ski hell I dont even have a ski, but if someone who doesnt know much about motors and have to pay to have them rebuilt is going to cost more and more money hell I would get towed by a purple and pink 50cc jetski if i had the opportunity to go out. chickity china the chinese chicken, wakeskating is wakeskating no mater what you are riding behind its the same fiznackling thing and its sick.... Im not a picky person what so ever I have gotten everything I have by me getting it. I see where this kid is coming from and it seems like they dont know much about motor work. Motor work consistantly is some serious cash thats why I said save some cash for a better four stroke so you wont have to rebuild so much..... I like pirates idea though about buying it riding it till it blows then run it right into the rich fawkers ski... Pirate we would get along well, just hope no alcohol would be present shizzle might really get out of hand

I'm riding behind a 2 stroke 60 hp seadoo that I got for my b-day 10 years ago. It can yank the heaviest of my friends ( 230lbs) with minimal struggle. I say go for it if the price is right.

it will be perfectly fine. its not about the horsepower, its about the impeller/ride plate/intake grate setup. most of the older jetskis have a better impeller in them giving them more pull power so they will take off easier. the newer jetskis are all worried about top end speed becuase that what sells, so the impeller is built more for that. my 100hp jetski pulls up better than the GTX Wake edition which is what like 120-140hp?... i can almost guarantee that it will be fine, if not go to ebay and buy a nice swirl impeller for about 100 bucks and that will definately fix it.

I ride behind an 85 hp 2 stroke and a 215 hp 4-tec. They both pull equally as well; sometimes its even easier to get up on the 2 stroke cause if the driver is inexperiened he won't rip your arms off by going too fast.
