|
|
I told a friend that I thought that when the NFL pros tell where they went to college that when they put THE in front of the universities name that it possible meant they won the national championship when they attended that college. He completely shut the idea down, but I feel it might be possible. However, I have not been able to watch monday night football were they say what college they went to. I never really gave it much thought untill the kid said that that was completely not true and I was wondering if any1 else knew anything about it.
Really stupid question but I dont wnat to have to wait untill next monday to see if i'm right or wrong. |

I'm thinking you are talking about " The University of Miami" which alumni refer to as , " The U". There may be more to it. _________________ If it don't kill you..it ain't bad. If it does..it won't matter. |

It has nothing to do with winning anything. That is the official name of that school. I think that is the only one that officially has "The" in it's name. _________________ Sattelyte Wakeskates

| I'm pretty sure that OU's official name is The University of Oklahoma (then again we have won a championship or two, or 7)... I think more than just Miami does that... I'll be sure to watch MNF this week to see if that's true, would be kind of cool, but I just think that's just how they say their school name. |

Not trying to be a smartass here, but why would watching Pro football (Monday Night Football) have anything to do with college names?
And I may very well be wrong with my above statement. I guess several colleges use "The" in their name, but most of the are "The University of ___". Ohio State is the only one I can think of that is "The" Ohio State University. Very wierd. I would be interested to learn how it got that name. Google to the rescue. _________________ Sattelyte Wakeskates

He said in the original post that when they say the lineups on Monday Night Football, the players say what schools they went to... He is just wondering if when they say "the university of miami" or "the ohio state", does that mean did they win a national championship while they went to school. By watching them say their college names, you can single out who says "the" before their school name, and then it would not be hard to tell if their school won a National title while that player was still in college.
I seriously doubt that is why they say it that way, but I'll still look out for it, it would be kind of a cool tradition if it were true. |
