for 2004 cassette has a few new things up their sleeves which weren't highly publicized or claimed in the latest advertisements (I'm getting this info from my catalog). I know that all of their decks (or at least the concaves--I may be misunderstanding things) have sublimated grafs with a coat of polyeurathane to make the bases more durable. The flats have been strengthened with "blue ply laminates." I guess the core of the board is substituted with the new blue ply cross laminate, which is supposed to strengthen the deck. So, the cassette freaks for 2004 should be getting a new kind of deck and a higher quality because of these new features, and the fact that there is a new manufacturer pressing their shiz-azz. I was quite pleased to acquire this information, considering the big stink people put on here months ago because they thought cassette was stagnating. Anyway, I hope that helped. And please dont' think that I'm trying to push a cassette on you, I just wanted to pass along this information.

BillJ, there are ALOT more skateboard companies then wakeskate. Skateboard design has reached it's peak and there is really no need to try and inivate new shapes. Wakeskating is real young and only has a handful of companies, so when 3 of the companies have the same EXACT shape in the same year it is rather disturbing. I personally believe that lf should have waited and put out a new shape or two. It is my opinion that lf just wanted to make quick cash to recover from the shutdown, which is classless and shows where their heart is. There is more to wakeskating then "just ride for fun dude". There is soul to it, just like surfing and skateboarding. Wakeboarding has soul to me, but the sport and industry in general have lost it IMHO. I think you should care about the products you buy and ride. Why support a company you don't believe in?

Russian, I share your same sentiments on this matter. In fact, I thought the same exact thing regarding the idea that LF should have taken a little break from the wakeskate market to come up with something new.

As for skate designs peaking, I'm not sure I agree with that (at least totally). Alot of models do look the same, but some companies are trying different stuff out, with some notables being Lib tech decks (not so much the shape as the construction process), krooked's napkin deck (among others), and Jason adam's deck with Black Label. I was just reading this article about dwindle and they tried to say that designs had peaked out because of money in the industry (you know, they're trying to justify their move to china)...I don't remember everything exactly anymore. Needless to say, I just wanted mention the fact that there are a few companies trying new things.

One more thought I'd like to add is that it is up to the consumer to decide what they'd really like to see in the market they care about. If people are willing to buy crap because it's cheap (vague example, I know), then they will survive. If they want to support something that shares their same thoughts and feelings when it comes to something they love, then those companies will prosper. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's up to us to determine what direction the future of wakeskating can take....

electricsnow, your right. But I don't think we'll see much change across the board in skateboard design, Just little things here and there. Anyone remember the plastic(not the cheap blue ones) decks that were out a few years ago. they were supposed to be indestructable, and revulutionary. Although they did last a long time(a buddy did manage to braek one) the pop was just not the same and the idea never really caught on. The lib boards have been around for a few years and I don't believe they will setting any new standards. A real good friend of mine says the pop isn't any good(sounds like the plastic boards)
I have not heard about Jason Adams deck cause I don't pay that much attention to the industry any more.

Anyway, this is all opinion and I'm still waiting for my hover board to arrive Very Happy

Hey why are you hatin Liquid Force. They are one of the only true wakeboard wakeskate companies. Like hyperlite is just another ski company. LF is just on it's first year of making skates give them time and they will inovate.

LF41, I agree with you, you make a really good point. I wouldnt ever wanna buy something from somewho who took somewho else's ideas. But the fact that some people from Lf helped people from cassette with the ideas gives them the right to sell the same board does it not? Kinda like How O'brien sold the harris/absence and gator board sold the harris. Both of the looked like the byerly. But they had the right to because Randall Harris helped design all three. I'd never buy a 484 board. And I'd buy a cassette. But I'm getting it for CHRISTmas and my local shop doesnt have the 04 cassettes in, only the 04 LF...

It's all about what you like. Some people like the traction of grip, but people say it doesn't last as long in water, and some don't like the scratches that might come along with grip. Foam is supposed to be good as well and it's a little softer when you fall on it. However, it kind of sucks up the contours of the concave so you really don't get it's full effect (the concave's effect, that is). Personally, I like grip, but you'll find people that like both. Just think about the kind of riding you're going to do and what you think will fit your best interests.

In conclusion, I agree with tribal on this one. At least the wakeskate industry is small enough so that everyone has their own thing going and they aren't all owned by the same parent company. Wakeboarding makes me sad....

I'm not quite as enthused about wakeboarding as I used to be, but after buying blacklist, there's one rider that makes me want to maintain an interest (riding wise, that is, I'll always buy mags and collect boards and stuff) and that's randy harris. With his long rope, the distance he travels from start to finish is ridiculous, not to mention the height he gets. And that gives his spins a really dope flow to them. But after watching sfumato, I felt kind of silly watching wakeboarding. Almost anything that can be done on a wakeboard (minus inverts) can be done on a wakeskate, and it can look ten times better because of the control that is required. I mean, sfumato has been better than the majority of the videos I've seen the past few years (Justin stephens has done a nice job, and I'm waiting for my copy of metronome). I think I said this before, but I may dabble in wakeboarding, but I'm much more interested in wakeskating.

Your quote is more accurate than mine: the industry is the disappointing part, but it's frustrating when people don't see what's going on and don't mind this "monopoly." And there are faults in the wakeskate industry, and one solution I had is just suppport what you believe in. It is up to the consumer to keep the companies in the industry that truly belong. But you may have some other issues that I may not be aware of.

I never replied to your last post about skateboards. Yes, I do remember that composite board (if I'm thinking of the same thing). They were supposed to be indestructable and if they did break, they were recyclable. As for the lib's, I guess we've heard different things because I heard people say good things about them, but I haven't tried one out myself; it's all about personal opinion. So, you might be right on that one. And in general, there probably wont' be any huge innovations, but it's good that people are still trying to think outside of the box.
